She can't just chill at home can she?

Disclaimer: I respect Angelina Jolie for her commitment to helping humanity… few people in the world have the capability to make that much positive change. That said, I have to ask — why does Angie insist on risking her life to help others when she has SIX kids at home?

The 37-year-old superstar and UN Refugee Agency Ambassador spent the day in Pakistan on Sept. 7 talking to the press and visiting a makeshift camp for flood survivors in an effort to increase awareness for one of the country’s worst-ever floods. Meanwhile, her six small kids — Maddox, 9; Pax, 6; Zahara, 5; Shiloh, 4; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 2 — were at home without their supermom, something that Angelina should think twice about, says one expert.

“I think that it is very admirable that she likes to do her charity work and give back, but I do think that when you have kids, much less six of them, sometimes you have to cut back on the risk-taking activities,” Dr. Jenn Berman, author of SuperBaby: 12 Ways to Give Your Child a Head Start in the First 3 Years, tells me. “She’s known for being [the ultimate] risk taker.”

Although Angie seems to put her passion for humanity before her family life, Dr. Jenn explains how her behavior is actually positive compared to her actions when she was younger. In fact, Angelina has been a thrill-seeker her entire life — when she was younger she acted out and did things for shock value (like make out with her brother on the red carpet at the Oscars)… and now she’s shifted her energy to a more positive outlet (albeit a potentially dangerous one).

“There’s a word for this, it’s called sublimation,” Dr. Jenn says. “She’s sublimating her energy into positive activities. When she was younger she did a lot of self-destructive activites and now she’s channeling it into good activities.”

Nevertheless, where do the kids fall in Angie’s priorities?

I admire her for it. Her kids won't want for anything, so I don't think this counts as being a neglectful mother. All six of them got a new lease on life.

Just because she's their sugar momma, doesn't mean she's being a good mother. Far more to parenting than bringing home the bacon.

So those kids are unloved and doing worse than they were before she adopted them? ;)

By that logic, no one in the US armed forces should have children. They're just going to be cannon fodder, if not have PTSD for the rest of their lives.

If you want a world full of nanny raised Paris Hiltons, then, yes, Jolies on the right track.

Sure their lives are better, but if their bottom line is the sole barometer, she could have just given each of them a suitcase full of money.

You've reached an intellectual cul-de-sac. That's retarded. Those children were essentially rescued. The formative first few years of their lives were nothing like Paris Hilton's.

Look, I'm not saying they'd be better off without her. I'm just saying everything else equal... Jolie at home with the kids >> Jolie traveling the world while the kids stay home with the nanny.

I feel the same about any family. Steady parental presence is imperative, regardless of income level.
However, in the case of the soldier, or the frequent business traveler, or the 2-working-parent family that requires 2 incomes to survive, I am willing to give them a lot more slack than a rich celebrity who jets off whenever they feel like it by choice.

She still looks hot -- ha!ha!
Quote: "... few people in the world have the capability to make that much positive change." Well, COLLECTIVELY we do. That's how change happens. The civil rights movement was MORE than Martin L. King. It's ordinary people getting together. That's how change happens. Be it the Women's movement or the Anti War movement.
Oh, Angelina Jolie is 35. Not 37 :)
