You have too much info in these various posts, but I do want respond to this directly, because I believe this to be very true.

In my view, the biggest contribution to ruining the US was Reagon's principle of letting the richest, keep more money was good for the US, and would create private sector jobs. Then the additional idea, that goverment oversight, was a hinderence on the overall good, was the nail in the coffin, so to speak. The bill which legalized credit default swaps was designed by a high profile Replublican, who's name escapes right now. It legalized gambling with the US's large pension funds.

I'm not sure if and how the new finance bill affects credit default swaps. So if someone knows, please post.

By the way, "2. Crushing debts from warmongering is a Repub trademark." The decision under Bush II, to have a tax cut, while waging war, was the crowning idea, under this philosophy.
