Charlie Sheen's plea deal with prosecutors allowed him to avoid jail time for a Christmas Day assault on his wife and also won't require him to do public service around the tony resort town of Aspen.

The "Two and a Half Men" actor pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor third-degree assault in exchange for prosecutors dropping two other more serious charges, including a felony charge of menacing. He was sentenced to 30 days in a rehabilitation center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management.

Sheen has 30 days to make arrangements to serve his sentence at Promises Treatment Center in California, though whether he will actually have to report there remains in question.

Sheen's attorney, Yale Galanter, said the actor has already spent 93 days at Promises this year and the center could choose to credit that time toward his sentence.

"Credit for time served is absolutely on the table," Galanter said. "How much credit he gets is up to Promises."

The charges against the actor stemmed from a Christmas Day 2009 dispute with his wife. Brooke Mueller Sheen told police that the actor threatened to kill her and brandished a knife after she told him she wanted a divorce.

Charlie Sheen said they argued but he denied threatening her, and he told police that he was upset by the divorce threat. Sheen previously went through a bitter divorce and custody battle with his ex-wife Denise Richards.

Within a week of Sheen's arrest, he and Mueller Sheen both said they wanted to reconcile. In February, they hugged in an Aspen courtroom after a judge modified a restraining order that kept them from contacting each other.

Since the incident, both have completed alcohol rehab programs, and Galanter has said they've been sober for months.

A previous plea agreement reached in June called for Sheen to plead guilty to the same charge and serve his time at the Pitkin County jail in work release program, where Sheen would be released during the day to work at a theater company in Aspen.

That deal fell apart over whether Sheen could participate in the work release program or serve in a more restrictive useful public service program, where Sheen would be required to abide by jail rules while out in the community.

Sheen's plea agreement on Monday called for Colorado prosecutors to drop a felony menacing charge and a criminal mischief charge in exchange for pleading guilty to a count of misdemeanor assault.

I once took a trip to LA County USC Medical Center and saw guys living their last days in alcoholic misery. All of them suffering from delirium tremens, some with other complications like alcoholic ulcers, some with severe hallucinations and others with crying family members at their bed side..

Danny Glover was in The Shooter with Mark Wahlberg and was irritating as hell when he spoke. For some strange reason, he had a retainer-like plate on his lowe bridge of teeth that caused him to talk like he was lisping the whole movie. There's one scene close up where you can actually see the plate. Ridiculous distraction!

Only a few months after Charlie Sheen was found naked in a bathroom with hookers and cocaine (http://thoughtcatalog.com/2010/christina-walsh-aka-capri-anderson/), the troubled actor was rushed to the hospital Thursday morning after suffering “severe abdominal pains”, which were later attributed to a hiatal hernia. His rep—who must be exhausted and dreaming about being Taylor Swift’s publicist—released (http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/01/28/charlie-sheens-porn-star-cocaine-hospital-hernia/) the statement, “Charlie has had a history of having this type of hernia, and the person who made the 911 call said he had severe stomach pains and said it was from a hernia condition. Since she is not a doctor, I did not extend her medical knowledge to the media.”
According to TMZ though, the story is bullshit. During their magical time together, Sheen also described plans to Jordan of retiring and moving into a house with a bunch of porn stars, asking her if she would like to join and be the token blonde of the house. Jordan accepted his offer mostly because he promised to buy her a Bentley.
What’s perhaps more puzzling than the evening itself is the fallout from his drug binge. Since everyone is in denial of Sheen having a problem, the actor will not be entering treatment and will return to work on his Emmy award-winning sitcom, Two & A Half Men on Tuesday. This dedication to enabling the actor and his vices is frightening and sets the stage for tragedy.
Sheen is emblematic of the ultimate Hollywood double standard. He can beat up his girlfriends, hookers and do copious amounts of drugs and still find work on a very successful sitcom. If he were an actress, I doubt he would even be given the option of returning to work. Rehab would be his only chance at salvaging his career. The case of down-and-out actress, Lindsay Lohan, comes readily to mind when discussing Sheen’s exploits. Here’s a 24-year old actress who has been forced into rehab 8,000 times to save face, lost movie roles and incurred irrevocable damage on a once-hot career. The public has been cruel to her and delighted in her downfall. Studios have shunned her, citing the high costs it would take to insure her. Sheen, on the other hand, is in his 40’s, has children and has been caught doing so many worse things and is doing just fine. In fact, every time Charlie Sheen beats up a hooker, it seems like he’s given an Emmy. So what’s the deal? Why is Hollywood still clutching on to this damaging double standard? Why is no one giving Sheen a time-out and forcing him into treatment like they did with Lindsay Lohan? Not only is the actor’s perpetual “Get out of a jail free” card sexist, it’s also probably going to end up killing him. Sorry, Charlie.
