Authorities announced Thursday the arrest of a suspect in the murder of a transgender last year in Hollywood.

Officials say Jesus Catalan, 24, was responsible for the stabbing death of 27-year-old Palina Ibarra of east Hollywood.

Ibarra was found stabbed to death on the floor or her apartment at 939 N. Mariposa Avenue around 8 p.m. on August 28, 2009, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD is planning a Friday news conference to share details of the case and the arrest.

Officer Sara Faden says the slaying was investigated as a hate crime.

Police say Catalan also went by the names Luis Santiago and Brian Nanes.

My bad. I guess I'm so used to the media doing that to us in cases like this. I read this story here http://cbs2.com/local/arrest.stabbing.murder.2.1795026.html and had a brain fart by the end of the article. lol

Los Angeles Superior Court, April 26, 2011

Jesus Catalan pleaded guilty in Superior Court in downtown Los Angeles to involuntary manslaughter in the killing of transgender Paulina Ibarra in April 2009. Catalan received 12 years in a plea agreement, meaning he will be eligible for parole in 10 years, according to LAPD Lt. Wes Buhrmester who has been involved in the case from the beginning.

There are times when the law seems to be at odds with Justice, Crime and Punishment. In my opinion, this is one of those situations when the punishment just does not seem to fit the crime and that the old "eye for an eye" type of punishment to = justice is in order. 12 years, with the possibility of parole in 10 seems to be a bit light for this punk. Hopefully, he's already serving as his cell blocks new little bitch.

I do hope that with the trial over, it will, in some way help Paulina's family and friends to take another step in finding some degree of closure from the loss of their loved one.

RIP Paulina
