By giving HIV-control drugs away FREE they have better than halved the AIDS death rate. And yet the US put in place crippling sanctions against Brazil. Why? Because the Brazilians, in order to do this, to SAVE LIVES, had to get these drugs cheap. So they had to make them, because the rich drug companies wouldn't cut a deal. But the US gozillionaire drug companies who hold the patents went crying to the White House and the US administration said, "Yes, it's obviously more important that the US gets even richer than that we save BRAZILIAN lives." And they got away with it because, to paraphrase the Cap-Locked OberMeister, "Brazilians ain't white," so who gives a shit about them?

There are 300-odd million US citizens. There are 6-odd BILLION of the rest of us. How does the US get to be the arbiter of the world's right and wrong? Because the US has more big bombs and guns and more killers in uniform than anyone else? You know, there's a name for that, and it's not nice. And don't come the "protector of the world BS." Protect from whom? The Martians?
