I want a LOUD pair of earphones for my Archos Key MP3 player. Now I know that Ipod earphones are LOUD but what should I look for on the "tech-specs" of earphones to tell the truly DEAFENING ones?

Nah. Bose Headphones. They sell them at Best Buy and they make their own ear buds.

Just was in Best Buy today, and picked up some over the ear-buds by
Sony.

The Bose seem great, but inevitably my ear-phones break or wear out.

If I bought the Bose, I would most def get a warranty, but even though
I feel I have an audiophiles ear, I can't justify a $100 for Ipod ear-buds.

Me either. I know the Bose are good but I own a $30 pair of Sony Sports Inside The Ear Headphones. They work for what I need them for and I like the plastic strap that fastens them to the top of my head..

D'oh...my bad. Hmmm...
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=70&name=Headphones-Accessories

That site usually has great reviews of the merchandise. I'd do a little browsing around on there and check some of the reviews.

Don't try Bose,overpriced crap.

It all depends on how you want to spend, what kind of headphones you want & what kind of music you listen to.I could nerd out on the topic of headphones but l wont.

Good bang for your buck are Klipsch Image S4 Headphones,
l got these a few weeks ago, better than some headphones that l've paid over 3 times as much for.

I forgot all about Klipsch products. I used to be real heavy into car audio and knew my fair share about home audio, but I've been out of the loop for so long. Good advice, though. It was one of the brands I was trying to remember to suggest over Bose.

The sennheiser cans above are top notch for the $$ as are Grados. If you are looking for earbuds check out Earphone solutions dot com, I got the Westone 2's, cost more than my iPod classic! But good sound. They have all kinds.

So I have to add, since you said more volume was your goal, that you know you can permanently damage your hearing that route?
I work with headphones & if I go into a crowded bar or club it is impossible for me to understand what people are saying unless they talk very loudly because my upper frequencies have disappeared, it's all just hash now..... very depressing. And I don't have it too bad like some others (tintinnitus). Inner ear canal devices that cut out exterior sounds with rubber seals are the way to go since you can hear the music clearly without a lot of volume.

Try to get some from a manufacturer called AKG. This company specialises in earphone and loudspeaker technology.

And to those who lament bout high price earphones - well, a good product costs money, if ure not prepared to spend u r just dumb. It's like driving a sportscar with crappy tyres. You just won't get the full potential out of it.

Well I listen to both Gabber Techno and Classsical music on my 'player. I mean is there any part of the stats that I should look for in specific? Neodymium drivers or is there something specific that tells you it is a loud clear phone?

A lot of the time you have to sacrifice volume for sound quality, or vice versa. If you want something that sounds loud to you, get a set of In Ear Monitors. It's what you see most musicians wearing when they play live.

Now, you don't have to go out and get the custom molds for your ears or anything.. Shure makes a great set that I use personally called the SCL2. Its only $100 for those. If you want something with a dual driver instead of a single driver, look for the E5 (may have a different model number, now). There are a few other companies out there that make IEM's, but I've had great luck with the Shure system.

In ears are great because you isolate the outside sound, and get the pure sound right in your ears. Meaning, you don't have to crank it way up to get volume, and you get amazing clarity.

Hopefully that helped a little..

I have a set of Apple in-ear headphones that are quite good. I sometimes use them under my crash helmet when I'm riding on the motorway and I can hear the music pretty well, or even spoken-word stuff like audiobooks. And even when I don't have the music on, the snug in-ear fit means that they act as ear plugs and drown out a fair bit of wind noise.

Sorry there is nothing specific that will grantee you a loud clear pair of headphones.

Certain makes & models that have good reps for delivering certain types of sound.

What's your buget ? If you're spending over £100 try & listen to a burnt in pair before you buy.

I had these Head-Direct RE0 http://www.head-direct.com/product_detail.php?p=38# not enough bass for me but loud, clear & clean sounding phones, may work for the kind
of music you listen to,great value at about £70.

Why do you want to damage your hearing?
Prolonged exposure to loud sounds will eventually make you deaf, and personal stereos are plenty loud enough to do that

My hearing is great, but I can listen to loud music for hours and still hear a pin drop. I also love music but hate to hear peoples footsteps behind me interfering with the music I listen to.

Agree with the 'Bose sucks' comment. Best I've ever owned are easily ultimate ears. Huge price range of ears. check out website... a lot of artists use these - Howard Stern too.

At the hacienda I rock Bose, Klipsch, Polk, and a couple of Yamaha
sub-woofers.

But out on the range, $15 - $20 Sony over the ear buds are fine by me.
