I think this marks the first time I ever quoted the Big Tymerz, but I felt it fit the moment.

These stalwarts of the hip-community, coined the phrase "hood rich", a phrase I feel perfectly fits some of the members of this board. Growing up in a family with political clout, I often heard my parents refer to these people as "nouveau riche." Often, these are individuals who grew up with little or no money. Suddenly, they come into a wind fall and feel the need to feed their material hunger with designer labels. However, they do not have the culture, education, nor etiquette necessary to function among the true "blue bloods" of high society.

Yes, the girls in question made some real money for the first time in their lives, but they still exhibit the same negative attitude that led to the poverty that plagued their families throughout the generations. Inevitably, their looks will fade and the money will dry up, leaving them to return to their original economic condition.

Just look at the number of washed up rock stars, rap stars and professional athletes, forced to appear on embarassing reality TV shows just to make a buck.

I have no real idea of who your talking about but I liked when you said "However, they do not have the culture, education, nor etiquette necessary to function", Because its undoubtly true. If you dont have the proper skills to navigate through life (And for this instance Financial responsiblity is the skill needed) Your gonna be lying on your face in nothing, In no time.

But i also understand why anyone who gets some money goes after the designer labels. Look at it this way, If you came from nothing and was fed nothing but ideals that these exspensive label ridden items are what it takes to compete with the wealthy then thats what you go after, Just so you feel like your one of them.

I'll give you an example. Ive got a cousin, Your average 20 year old. But he's got dreams that may be slightly out of reach. He's been talking all this big shit about rapping and blah blah blah But he hasnt made it yet. STILL he insist on purchasing Dumb ass watches and even desires a 5000 watch h wants his Jeweler to make. Its stupid and foolish but its what he see's when he looks at a magazine or turns the channel, So he knows no better.

I agree. The irony about wealthy people is that, as a group, they dislike spending money.

You are so full of it that it is so very hysterical.

Only a snooty, wanna be well to do- would even call somebody nouveau riche, or hood riche- or be critical of poeple who made money and spend it lavishly.

You talk as if you are a Vanderbuilt or Rockefeller, or perharps an Astor?

The thing about American darling is that there is no "class" system in regards to breeding like in many countries (which I think is a great thing).
You can be pennyless in many countries of the world and still be royalty or part of the upper class and vice versa.

Is it npt part of the American dream that once you achieve wealth you are part of t he upper class?

Get a grip.

Just read this post now (wondered why the topic of Gucci and Prada was so popular).

Sorry, Jhellis978, I thought you were kind of okay, but what you are saying smacks of smug, holier-than-thou snobbishness. In these forums we don't question what background someone comes from, we don't care if they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth or haven't got a cent to their name, whether their family went over to America on the Mayflower or got smuggled in over the border on a donkey. Who gives a shit? Whatever position you are in socially it's only because you or someone down the line in your family had the courage, the intelligence or the breaks to make it. Some work hard for a living, some get lucky, some cheat, some get cheated on. Today's newly rich will be the ancestors of tomorrow's old money. So who gives a flying fuck?

Don't get me started on culture and class because this your first post hasn't convinced me you have any.

And what has intelligence got to do with anything? There are potential geniuses dying of starvation in Africa and an affluent dumbass with the IQ of a monkey's asshole occupying the White House in America.

What the fuck was the point of your post? Oh, I suppose it was just to prove that it's not just newly rich people that can be asswipes. Some high-society "blue-bloods", as you call them, can be even worse.

Get a grip.

The “American Dream”—those principles that state prosperity, security and notoriety exist as inherent, intrinsic products of diligent hard work and devotion, for those seeking liberty, justice and the right to pursue happiness—leads many Americans to engage in a self-destructive lifestyle of insecure delusions driven by ineffectual motivations. When reality collides with this dream an implosion occurs, sending the dreamer into an abyss of dread, doubt and an inevitable death.

The "American Dream" is a lie, Allanah. It is a myth taught to American school children to try and engender a false sense of patriotism. It is a lie used to divert your eyes from the ugly truth of our society--the American Caste.

We all want to believe that the United States is a nation free from "classes," but we know this to be false. The very essence of free-market capitalism implies that there will be social stratificaiton. Do I agree with this system? No. But I don't live in false denial either. There's no way to have your Starbucks, laptop, new shoes, and SUV and not have a society divided by class.

Oh Brideshead you are so mistaken. That is a unitelligent statement made by someone with no understanding of either class or culture. Neither class or culture are obtained at both. Each are the result of upbringing. Intelligence, defined either as the ability to comprehend and profit from experience or as the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge, is also a faculty that is not innate in human beings. Rather it is the result of education.

Since a sufficient amount of resources can guarantee an individual will be exposed to class, culture and education ... it appears that all three can be purchased.

Truly this is the myth that the upper class / upper crust wishes to maintain vis-a-vis all other classes. However, when well realize that the British look upon our so-called upper class with disdain that is usually reserved for mere theives and vagobonds - the notion of our upper class is clearly laid upon shaky ground. And let's not mention how the Japanese looks upons the entirety of Western society.

This is all to say that in this culture, material wealth is too often the measure of men. Hence the mad dash to make cash. lol

Did I read "WHITEBOYISM" WTF is that.

Arianna that is beyond offensive.

Regardless of your thoughts on what he posted, you didnt need to take it there.

His thoughts were no more "whiteboyism" than poor people from the hood spending their whole paycheck on some gold fronts are dare I say referred to as "n**er rich"

See how offensive and wrong that is?

My 2 cents on this are as such. You can always become more intelligent, you can always evolve and develop more class, and here in America you can always find a way to make money.

Its what is in your heart that counts. If wearing a label makes YOU feel better about YOURSELF. Great, that works.

BUT if you wearing that label means you are going to look down or sneer at the very people who were on the bottom with you when you didnt have it so good, you are wrong.

So now are assuming I grew in the suburbs?

I grew up in a town of 6,000 people in East Texas. 70% of that population was African-American, the other 30% was Caucasion.

There goes your theory.....I'm not sheltered....

On the talk of intelligence, if anybody want to test theirs, you can go to www.iqtest.com.

But yea class is a part of society whether we like it or not. Just another label to put on people. But how people spend their money, whether wise or unwise, is all over this country, not just here in this forum. There are people out there with their big house, mercedes and fancy cars and hardly have any money in the bank. My brother in law, very successful guy, lives in a big house, owns 3 mercedes, but his wife was laid off for work and he said in 6 months time, if she didn't get a job, he would be broke. Luckily she got a job.

But this is how a lot of Americans live, on the edge. Hell, our entire county is in tons of debt and how can we expect Americans to live any different. The government itself sets the worst example. So get money and spend it like crazy, hey that is the way things are and some will pay for it, others won't.

Although designer brands and whatnot are good to have whenever one can afford them..i.e. "Gucci, Prada, fulll length leather..." etc. Im more dictated with "Neccessity" over "Luxury". And the saying live within your means. And never pay retail where markups are often than not 5x its actual cost! ;)

Arianna,

I am glad a forum such as this exists.

It is point/counterpoint.

Sorry but white boy is fucking racist.

Why is it that it is always white boy and not white man?

Yet if you say black boy, it is racist?.

Think about that one.

Can I have a blackboyism then?

Im just saying NEITHER ONE IS RIGHT.

You moron.

N***er RICH is JUST as offensive as WHITE BOY.

BOTH are wrong.

NEITHER should be tolerated.

I didnt justify it or say it was right. I was showing you a case where something is very offensive.

Yet you thought it ok to put whiteboyism in the post.

Oh and if you will get on me for "using the N word" in my post.

Then make sure no one uses the "white boy" term in theirs.

BOTH are wrong.

It takes a thought process to compute what I have presented.

I am so sick and tired of white men complaining how they are discriminated against or calling someone not white a racist. It is funny, because white men have the power in this country and the world. Try being black for a day, and you'll proably would go insane. Whatever people spend their money on is no ones business. As long as it doesn't impose upon your rights why care?
