"The Mad Monk" was quite the ladies' man and is said to have bedded every woman in the Czarina's court and possibly even Alexandra herself. He was finally assassinated by a Prince of the Romanov House and his cohorts, but not before they fed him several poisoned cakes, beat him, stabbed him several times, and shot him with numerous bullets. I don't know...maybe fear of death. It seems like most people spend an incredible amount of their short life spans with a preoccupation of death. A good part of a lot of people's lives is spent on mourning other people who have passed....and nothing turns someone devout as when they are suddenly faced with death themselves.This doesn'texplain the "angry God" question though.

Then, of course, there are those who wield that type of angry religion as a weapon to use against other people they don't like/agree with/feel superior to/feel inferior to ...etc. They're incredibly small minded and weak people who feel a need to physically or psychologically strike out at others for their own gratification. So they use religion as a justification for their acts.
