The most recent data indicate the average man's height is 69.3" - ages 20 and over - so just a little over 5'9" tall.

And the average woman is just a tad under 5'4" in average height.

Sweet I am 6'0 ..& with Manolo Blahniks 6'4.

There is not a limit to whom you can be , Aslong as you feel confident and secure in every step of the way!!

I used to feel so inadequate because I was much taller than all of the other girls, and yes I even got tons of flack for it from them. It was not till someone told me, that i should not see it as a short coming but to embrass it , and "LOVE IT, , he also made me see that my height has nothing to do with being able to blend into society , and has nothing at all to do with being less femme. Thanks to him I LOVE MY HEIGHT , and have when you love it , accept it, and know its a beautiful thing that many girls do not have, it will radiate through you of how confidant you are with it.

When you think of is as a complex you will tend to walk hunch over and try every possible way to conceal it ,, ,,, Been there done that ,, It just makes you look completelly odd and insecure, ...........

Some enlightment :

Sweety dont feel that way.... i think it will be alot worse not living out your dream just because your are fearful of what others may think....

We all have fear of something or some insecurity yes some minor and some big, So what?!!!!!!!

Mons, its going to take time for you to come around,, Stand in front of a full length mirror, and play with your look, try clothes on even shoes, and play with your image, even if you feel alil odd, its a process , ,,

Sweety if it is your dream dont let it pass you by,,,, dont let that minor detail stop you from being who you want to be.

For example , Im not comparing you to this scenario , just to show it never late, inspite of what other neigh sayers may,, There was a 70something yr old man who after all this time got her SRS,,, why did he wait that long,,,who knows?,,,,, But She did what She wanted and its her life, even if it did seem strange to others... Dont let people determine what you can do , or can't do....DO YOU !!!!

Well I am not sure how tall a woman it should be... I do have a little problem accepting than I am kinda short... I am 5'3" and usually I wear 4" heels so I can get to be average, when I go out I like to look a little tall as other woman since I just do not feel comfortable with my height, my Man tells me it is the right height but who knows...
When I used to participate in beauty pageants I always was the shortest girl in the pageant and used the platforms shoes to stand close to the other contestants, lol. Oh well , men love us when we are petite but some girls want to be a few inches shorter and other like me need at least a couple inches more... just my two cents

Love... Cinthya.

Height can influence blending but no more or less than anything else.

For someone who is borderlne passable, anything that makes them stand out in public is going to increase the odds of being clocked. The taller someone is, the more likely they're going to have people in public notice them.

That's true for everything. The more unusual you dress the more you're going to stand out in public. The crazier your hair is, the more you're going to stand out in public. The more revealing you dress the more you're going to stand out in public. Anything that makes you stand out of a crowd is going to make passing harder because it will get people to look at you, when normally they wouldn't notice your existence.

But if someone passes well, then they're still going to get looked at, it will just be no more than "wow, that girl is really tall" instead of "wow, that girl is really tall... er wait a minute, I wonder if she's a guy." For someone who doesn't pass well, the best thing they can try to do to cope with it would be to try to keep from standing out; meaning staying away from tall heels when tall, not showing a lot of skin, not wearing bright colors, dressing age appropriately, etc.

Tall girls also flock to tall girls. If a tall girl sees another tall girl, she'll almost always walk up to the other girl and be like "wow, it's so nice to see another tall girl around here" and then start making small talk. So you're going to have to be able to deal with that. If they come up to you to make small talk and they get the impression that something is odd about you, that could raise questions. I think a lot of trans people early on can't handle it when situations like that happen, a lot of people who haven't been fulltime long (or not yet at all) aren't usually able to deal with having strangers come up to them like that. For instance one of the typical ways girls interact with each other is they'll make a quick smile towards another when passing in a hallway or in a restroom, with the expectation that they'd get the same in return. If someone is so worried about passing that this makes them nervous instead of naturally reacting the way a GG would, that's going to come off as strange.

That's one of the reasons why confidence is so important to passing. If you feel like you're not supposed to be in the restroom, scared that you're going to get clocked, you're going to look out of place and get clocked.

I believe they're near typical XY averages, just like AIS women are, as well, meaning they're above the 5'4" average for XX girls.

That would be about right, MtF people are around the height of average guys in a given ethnicity.

Then shoe selection plays a role in how much taller trans people appear to be in public. The really large shoe sizes, like over 12, don't have a lot of selection so it's hard for a girl who is tall to shop based on heel height. If you want a pair of a specific type of boots in 14, you might not be able to find a pair with less than a 3" heel. Do the math here, if you're 6'2 and put on a 3" heel you're going to be 6'5, about a foot taller than the average GG is w/out heels. If you're 6'2 and wear 4" heels you're going to be taller than most guys in public.

Plus the shoe industry assumes any really large size (like 14s, 15s, 16s) will mostly be bought by TV's or guys who want them for halloween costumes, so the selection is pretty limited to crazy heel heights. So if someone is really tall (over 6') and has a shoe size in the extreme range, they might end up being left with either really tall heels, or having to pay to have shoes custom made for them ($$).

Was that me? I think that was me, JK. First time I saw you, Janira, getting out of a cab on South Beach I was like "Damn, what a beautiful, tall woman! Omg!" You can be whatever you want to be. It is definitely about confidence though. Many people have excelled at things when others told them their height was inappropriate. Never let others dictate what you can be. What do they know?
I will say I saw this tgirl years ago that had to be about 6'7". I'm sure she got alotta odd looks but kudos to her for being confident enough to do that. So that should be your first step, developing confidence. Alotta guys will be insecure around girls taller than them, but they don't represent every man. Hey remember there are girls in the WNBA taller than you, so you can still do this!

I like to wish you luck if you decide to transiton. The girls here are right, you are an extremely handsome man & chances are great if you dedicate yourself, that you will end being a really gorgeous woman.
I am a girl who transitioned later in life, starting 15 months ago at 43, but have no regrets because I had to dedicate myself on establishing a good work career, taking care of my dad until he passed away & being a fulltime caregiver are some of the reasons why I delayed it until recently.
You are still young & hope all the posts here have given you hope to take this next step forward.

I'm just shy of 6 ft and started transitioning almost 2 years ago. I've also been really self conscious about my height but I'm starting to feel more comfortable about it lately. I think it's true that it's something develops as you feel more confident about your overall presentation.

I was watching one of those make over shows awhile ago and they were making over this 6 foot tall gg who was also really sensitive about her height. One of her issues was with shoes and not wanting the added height that heels added. So instead of buying the sexy shoes that she really wanted she ended up buying a lot of flats and then basing her whole wardrobe around them.

The "make over specialists" pushed her to start wearing the shoes that actually matched the over all look they were going for. She was a bit awkward at first but soon found her stride and confidence and by the end of the show had totally embraced the idea.

So some tall gg's have the same issue. But with some time and confidence it can be overcome.

Just the other day I had a taller women approach me and say "Gee, I thought I was a tallest girl in the room. Nice to see I'm not alone." So it is true what SarahG said about tall girls flocking together.

We use other length and distance units on the European mainland.

That's correct:

12 inches = 1 ft
1 inch = 2.53 cm

And they told me in elementary school that by the time I was an adult the entire US would be using the metric system

Two things can cause shrinking.

Bone loss (can be caused by endocrine issues, another reason to get regular blood work). Osteoporosis weakens your bones and eventually your spine starts to get cracks which can take away height

Muscle loss (from HRT). After starting hrt some people will lose some of the muscle mass & bulk their body has, which might make someone lose a slight amount of height.

Both can also happen just from aging, one of my grandmothers was 6'4 when she was my age (northern European genes, I am lucky I didn't end up taller than I am) but today she's actually close to what I am (I'm 5'10 normally) because her bone loss has taken enough bone density away from her spine that she can't stand straight up like she used to. You know how some old people are somewhat hunched forward? That's basically what can happen. Also makes your bones more likely to break when you get hurt or fall, that's why old people break hips so easy.

Isn't it kinda stupid to ask what the average height of a TG is? I'd imagine it coincides completely with the height of the average male since thats what we genetically are.

It doesn't really have anything to do with whether someone's blood is XY or XX. It has more to do with puberty.

When you are in puberty, there is a window of time during which your hormones tells your body how to develop, so being exposed to testosterone during this time will tend to make someone taller than someone exposed to estrogen during this time. When XY GG's are tall it's usually because of endocrine irregularities (like naturally higher than typical testosterone levels).

During this time frame you can alter what happens by tinkering with things like hormones & diet. Nutrition plays an important role, the better someone's diet is the more likely they are to be taller. If someone during this time does not have good access to nutrition, it can stunt their growth (which is partly why height varies from country to country, industrial countries have easier access to nutrition than some parts of the starving 3rd world). There have been stories of girls with bad eating disorders who literally starved themselves during puberty to such an extreme that it kept them from having a normal puberty, then as they aged that window closed, and as a result it permanently stunted their growth.

Once that window closes, for many things it closes for good or nearly so (that's why it's so rare for trans people to get fully developed breasts from HRT alone, naturally getting to a tanner stage 5 is pretty rare in trans people even if they start in their late teens/early 20s, likewise for getting female hips, ribs, etc.). For FtM's, once that window is over they cannot grow taller (like an XY GB would during puberty) by taking testosterone. They could be the typical height of a guy, but only if they take testosterone throughout puberty before that window closes; which isn't usually allowed because testosterone access is controlled more strictly than estrogen is (since it's abused by athletes and taken recreationally).

Love... Cinthya.

almost same problem like me im only 5'4 and wish i was taller

but im doing my best to be content and happy with myself more petite more cute more passability and not too much attention in public

i have to say the woman on here are some of the most amazing people you've all been extremely supportive

You seem really genuine on asking all of us for advice & guidance & God bless. I sent you a private message & keep in touch.
Take care.
Thanks, Carissawow great story at 43?amazing you are a beautty i did it before i turned 40 thank god but as for how tall i am 5 feet 6 and shrinking lol

Lisa,
Appreciate the compliment & you look amazing yourself. I never had any surgeries done yet, but plan on getting breast implants sometime next year. I am going to be 45 years old on April 24 & feel young inside like I do outside.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my height....I am 6'1" tall.
I have been at this height since I was 15 years old & just seem to have stopped growing.
I am glad to see another older girl here & hope we can become friends.
Take care & wishing you a good afternoon.
Thanks, Carissa we are sisters babe and yes im honoured to be your friend being older has its advantages for sure

Lisa,
Sounds good to me...I am honored to have you as a friend. :)
You are right, being older has its advantages.
Have a good night & take care.
Thanks, Carissa

Great thread, wonderful responses from everyone. 8)

And it's true that no matter what your height you need to be comfortable
in your own skin.

When I was first transitioning I was somewhat self-conscious about my
height, as well as a lot of little things that might trouble us.

Of all the things that I've done transition wise, surgeries, etc., the best
has been becoming self confident and not being insecure in myself as a
person, or woman.

I wear heels from time to time, not as much as I did when I was younger.
I don't wear them as much because of my arches and my feet, but I truly
love being tall.

Delia, so if i'm correct 6 ft means 1.82m right?

We use other length and distance units on the European mainland.

xoxo Kirsten

That's correct:

12 inches = 1 ft
1 inch = 2.53 cm

And they told me in elementary school that by the time I was an adult the entire US would be using the metric system

Thanks sweetie!

Okay, US perhaps but i'm still in EU (Europe), Belgium to be correct!
