A TS does not even have to be transitioned in order to be considered TS; a person can be diagnosed a pre-op TS before transitioning. In distinction to transsexual is transvestite (TV). A male who wears female clothing, but who considers himself male, is a transvestite. Magnus Hirschfeld, who coined the term transvestite, applied it universally to all transgender people because other descriptors did not exist at the time. Today, however, transvestite generally connotes men who identify as men, but who enjoy wearing women's clothes, whatever the motivation (whether stress-related cross-dressing or as part of a fetishism or as gay males using female mimicry to get laid). It is fair to use the male pronoun with TVs because TVs identify as male and are not the same as TG or TS (who identify as female).
