View Full Version : Does an actress or actor earn the title of Star in porn?

Or is Porn Star a term that simply applies to anyone who is in front of the camera?

Is there a defining moment (number of scenes completed, DVDs sold, hits on a web site, popular acceptance, etc,) when someone becomes a Porn Star?

Just curious if some of the distinction of the term Star has been lost over time. Does the fact that someone is featured in a porn scene in a DVD take them from being a porn actress, actor, up and coming porn star to that of a Porn Star.

How do you define a Porn Star?

IMO a porn star is defined by the last xxx film she/he releases. And also if that sold $$ copies or tanked in sales. Like just how actors are defined by their last movie. And like movie stars, porn stars are called porn stars because they got a number of successful films under their belt (Danielle Foxxx, Yasmin Lee, Allanah Star etc are good examples). Which means that If one has only done 1 or 2 maybe 3 small scenes (like bit players aka extra's in movies) or worst just still pictures = insufficient and unworthy enough for such titles. ;)

I would agree with you and those Stars you mentioned. I think the term is being used far to often.

Similar to when a person states that they are FEATURED on a web site, they have a link and when you go to the site, you have to search to find them. Featured in my mind is they are at the top of the list.

I agree. Anyone who has done a scene is too often refered to, and sometimes by themselves, as a "pornstar". If you aren't frequently recognized in public, you're not really a star. Peter North doesn't walk around hoping people will recognize him. He walks around hoping they don't. And that's about how "pornstardom" should be judged.

Hi!

Hello Saifan. Yeah, I actually haven't been on here a long while. I've gotten very busy at work, also got a car now so I'm almost never home or near my computer. Besides, the feel of this forum/board has changed since I initially joined in. Now there's a bunch of haters spamming threads after threads spewing off their hatred agenda all for the spotlight. I figured, I've better things to do that sit here and bicker with losers about who's prettier, more femme, successful in their chosen careers, got real hair, who's dating fags etc. when that negative energy can be better spent having sex with people I like (or just doing stuffs with them) out in the real world! lol

Hara you are so so right and I agree the term has become meaningless and no "star" value anymore.

Great topic!

Ok, so not knowing anything about the industry, I suspect that the organizations behind the camera is rather small where word travels fast. I would also think that there is no shortage of individuals who think they have what it takes to be a Star.

So my question is will producers shoot anyone who wants and like other business, how important is it for people to make friends and be easy to work with to move forward in the industry?

I have to believe that if someone has the looks and a degree of talent in front of the camera, some "attitude" will get overlooked because their work will sell, but if someone is borderline in looks and talent, it is more important that they make friends and establish a reputation as a hard worker and easy to work with and not play the diva or piss off those that have or could help them, ie. Borderline looks+attitude=minimal chance for stardom.

I agree with you LAGent4ts. And additionally, there is a huge difference between being scouted (offered) to pose for websites (like a modelling scout would for prospective models) as opposed to begging xxx website owners and photographers to shoot them. I knew a handful of girls (some on this site) that does that actually (as you can see from their half baked photo shoots). ;)

A talent should be scouted (discovered?) and not the other way around IMO. But maybe I'm just old fashioned that way. lol
