Yeah, but back in the 60s and 70s, HAIR, long and natural, was in fashion.

I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

okay so she's always been a hirsute exhibitionist. what else is new?

the only guys who might find her hot are the glam queens who adore her as an icon, and maybe sean penn.

there is a reason she is famous in spite of having given naked images of her very average body out for free, and the reason is not related to her looks.

Ben

Madonna is a performance artist.
And she's an exhibitionist in the sense of displaying her personality. That's what performance art is.
She's also a great LGBT icon:

I wouldn't waste my effort on anything Phobun says. It's almost universally negative and representative of a person with low self-esteem. In other words "make me look good by making everyone else look bad" syndrome. I don't know about everyone else, but it is really gotten old and tiresome for me. I just don't even read what Phobun writes any more at all, though I like the avatar.

Madonna & Tupac Shakur's love child? Almost happened

Can you imagine the child of Madonna and Tupac Shakur? According to Lucy O'Brien's new book, "Madonna: Like an Icon," out Tuesday, it almost happened.

O'Brien says Madonna, in her mid-30s, "desperately wanted children and had various relationships with unlikely men." The singer's friend Alison Clarkson recalls when she was briefly dating Tupac Shakur, one year before his death.

It could be. Not entirely sure. I guess people were shocked by bare boobies in the 90s -- ha! ha!
Now it seems so, well, run of the mill. It gets more and more difficult to shock. Hence Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress. I mean, what else is left? Oh, I'm sure Lady GG will think of something -- :)

Some of the pics in the Book are good. Others, well, slightly silly.
It was released in the Fall of 1992.... I'm guessing no other major female celeb had/has released anything as shocking. Oh, wait!!! Pamela Anderson -- ha! ha! Followed by Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian etc....

Madonna is clueless as to why she did the book. Money? Nah. Shock? Maybe. Shock leads to attention. Attention leads to sales. So, maybe it was money -- ha! ha!
Maybe Madge is an exhibitionist. Who wanted to show off her new sculpted body.
I don't think money was the main criteria. Or maybe I'm just naive -- ha! ha! ha!

Ha! ha! ha! Well, obsession means fascination and enthusiasm. Well, yes. I'm fascinated by Madonna. And: enthusiastic. Enthusiastic about her songs, her CDs.... And her music videos.
I think she has had a PROFOUND impact on our overall culture. On music. Fashion. (OK, her movie career has been less than stellar. To say the least -- ha! ha! The only field she hasn't conquered, as it were. I mean, Swept Away was absolutely diabolical. I mean, it's great if ya wanna watch a movie with no script, no, well, nothing -- ha! ha! Except for Madonna looking fantastic. As usual -- :))
I mean, one has to acknowledge her success: She's the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time.
She is fantastic. And Lady Gaga has picked up from where Madonna has left off. Followed by Britney Spears....

Ben ....I think sometimes you're attracted to the Fantasy and mystique these women create. It's an alter reality. The 3 women you mention are pop icons and pop performers....not particularly talented singers or musicians...for example could any one of them hold the attention or an audience playing a solo or singing a cappella? Not hardly but I also understand that's not what they do. I'm not all that into Pop Culture...I find it tedious and it generally rewards talent less people with popularity way beyond their talent level. Having said that, I won't deny Madonna's impact on the society or the fact she's made millions of dollars, or the fact she's pushed boundaries...good for her, but one's gross income is not what I use to measure lasting musical impact. She and Lady Gaga are performers.... I often say we like what we like....and there's plenty of variety to please everyone. But for comparisons sake, Delores O'riordan of the Cranberries has more musical, vocal and song writing talent than all 3 of your icons combined. She can sing a duet with Pavarotti or rock a stadium into submission with her voice. I just think there's a profound difference between performers and show girls and musicians. You enjoy the visual show and the fantasy...I like to listen to the music. Different Strokes.

I agree.
Big numbers (meaning: CD sales) don't necessarily mean big talent, as it were.
There are hundreds of Rock bands out there, as it were, who are amazing... but get very little attention. For one reason or another. Only a handful of musicians actually make it. Which is regrettable. As they aren't given a wider audience.
So, a very good band singing profound songs will not have the same popularity and exposure as someone like Madonna. (Madonna doesn't sing about, well, politics. She isn't interested in stirring anything up politically. She's apolitical. Which is fine.
She'll stir things up with regard to sex. But not politically. It's purely market driven. Ya know, create controversy. How? Well, sex.
A friend of mine said she is simply selling sex. Um, well, I guess one can say that. Ya know, McDonald's sells Big Macs and Madonna sells sex -- ha! ha! ha!)

Madonna never appealed to me personally. Too muscular and wiry. Not a big fan of her music, though I have lked a few tunes here and there. I recognize her impact on pop culture. I think she recognized the limits of her talent needed tobe offset by shock value. I think Lady Gaga is in a similar position of limited musical talent but great marketing instincts.

Shock value aside, I wonder how much she is actually into some of the sex practices she has "posed" with, such as BDSM? I am not so naive to think that is only for show, but I wonder.

Another thing I read some years ago (for what it's worth): Madonna is a notorious size queen and during her early days in New York (hadn't broken into the stratoshpere of stardom yet) she and a girlfriend would frequent a hetero sex club where the only men admitted had to be 9 inches or more, and were measured with full hard ons to verify. This account was by one of her then girlfriends. Anyone ever hear that tale?

I think Madonna is quite conservative. (I mean, like most people, she enjoys sex.) But I think she knows what she has to do to stay on top, as it were. Which is: be a sex symbol. Be the "girl" that guys wanna bang, as it were. And she knows what sells. Just like Hugh Hefner knew back in the 1950s -- :)
It's just business to her. And she's selling a product. Herself. Madonna Inc., as it were. And like any other corporation she has to increase market share. And she feels she has to do exactly what she's doing to increase return on her own investment... :)
I've never heard of the sex club where only men w/ 9 inch members were allowed in. But it sounds like it could be a great movie.
Starring, say, Scarlet Johansson. As Madonna... ha ha ha! Actually, they should make a film about Madonna. And INCLUDE the club where nothing under nine is all the club wants -- :)

How Madonna liberated America

As the pop icon prepares to play the Super Bowl, a celebration of the way she changed sexual mores forever

By Sara Marcus (http://www.salon.com/writer/sara_marcus/)

http://media.salon.com/2012/02/madonna-460x307.jpg

When Madonna takes the stage at halftime of the Super Bowl this Sunday, she’ll be the first female solo performer to do so since Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake played peek-a-boo in 2004. Ever since Nipplegate, Super Bowl programmers have avowedly played it safe, booking a string of hoary grown-man rockers such as Paul McCartney and The Boss, known quantities not prone to random disrobing.
By and large, the halftime show has become the live-performance equivalent of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed long after an artist’s peak. So Madonna, once the baddest good girl or best bad girl in pop, is now safe prime-time fare? No shocker there. But even if Madonna hasn’t had a mega-hit since Justin Bieber was in diapers, that’s far from the point. Madge will be bringing two other fabulous Ms. M’s — Minaj and M.I.A. — onstage with her, which is exciting, but that’s not the point either.
No, the point is that this Sunday will be an opportunity to celebrate the changes Madonna brought to American culture at the height of her career. Her visionary assault on American prudery, her revelatory spreading of sexual liberation to Middle America, changed this country for the better. And that’s not old news; we’re still living it.
If this sounds elementary to speak of now, it’s only because we’ve spent so long in the world Madonna made that we can hardly imagine it any other way. But throughout the 1980s and into the ’90s, her protean personae and erotic gambits were consistently a step ahead of what Middle America was ready for. She dared us to catch up with her. Remember, she (and the fans who fell in love with her in second grade, ahem) came of age in an era when a U.S. president could reasonably believe that he could confess to having committed adultery in his heart — not in an open marriage or on the Appalachian trail, folks —without sounding utterly ridiculous.
In the early ’80s, when the Material Girl owned the dance floor at Manhattan nightclubs and reveled in the downtown scene’s polysexual utopia, the political advances of feminism and gay liberation had stalled out and were hurtling toward backlashville. By the end of that decade, when gay rights laws were being repealed in cities across the country, Madonna was bringing the ball culture of gay and transgender blacks and Latinos — the true voguers — to junior high school gymnasium dances worldwide, popularizing an ecstatic ethos of freedom, sexual and otherwise, sprung directly from big-city club scenes that millions of suburban kids might never get to experience firsthand.
In an era when photographers and performance artists were being blasted in the halls of Congress and the courts of public opinion for using religious iconography or homoerotic images or referring to self-gratification, Madonna hit upon danceably glamorous versions of all of these things. She managed to smuggle the values of the sexually fluid, multiracial art underground into the dead center of American culture before the old-school guardians of moral rectitude could gather their forces to protest.
Oh, they did protest — most memorably in 1989, when her “Like a Prayer” video led the pope to bar her from performing in Italy and made Pepsi back out of sponsoring her next tour — but the forces of censorship were no match for the marketing and dramaturgical genius of Madonna. In “Truth or Dare” and “Sex” and the “Justify My Love” video, she brought pervyness into the mainstream, and it remains firmly lodged there to this day, as we can see in everything from the ubiquity of porn stars to Rihanna’s career.
So what if Madonna has been a garden-variety celebrity since then, balancing slight nuttiness (Kabbalah, hydrangeas) with backward-glancing stunts (Britney) amid a backdrop of mostly unexceptional music and the odd cinematic triumph (“Evita”) or flop (“W.E.”)? The woman remade American culture. And that’s more than enough to justify my love for her.

She's a bitch. It doesn't matter what age she is.

Now, honestly, what do you really think of her -- ha ha!
She does evoke strong feelings in people. I don't know why. I mean, she's merely a musician.
So, one can either like her music or not. No big deal.
I never hear people calling, say, Gene Simmons an asshole. Nice tongue though -- ha ha!
The visceral venom seems more often directed at women.
Again, one should focus on her music. And if you don't like her music, well, that's fine.

She's not "merely a musician". She's done many other things. She said it on American Bandstand when she started out - she wanted to take over the world. And she does seem bitchy to me, but I don't know her so I don't really know how she is.

She's not "merely a musician". She's done many other things. She said it on American Bandstand when she started out - she wanted to take over the world. And she does seem bitchy to me, but I don't know her so I don't really know how she is.

Yeah, we don't know celebrities.... We've no idea as to what they're like in their private lives. Not fully. Nor should we know.
I mean, fixating on celebs, of course, is designed to divert people. To get people to pay attention to things that are of no importance.
Celebrity lives are no more or less important than the lives of anyone else.
It's OK to focus on their music etc., etc.
And, too, I'm starting to prefer musicians who are political, who have something meaningful to say:

i personally like her a lot (maybe not as much as ben) but i think she was more attractive in the 80s than now (though i'd still hit it). i even remember sneaking into my uncles library to sneak a peak @ her 'erotica' book.

i can definitely see how people see a bitch- she definitely seems very assertive, strong-minded and very outspoken, but i feel like she deserves it. i still remember seeing her on television saying she "wanted to take over the world" and thinking "yeah- dream on.." then suddenly she was everywhere

as far as success goes? madonna killed it

I'd still beat her ass like a dirty rug. She is probably the biggest bitch that has every lived, but is still eat the peanuts!!!

Why is she "the biggest bitch that has ever lived?" The so-called definition (I mean, we can't say a word means anything no matter how we use it) of bitch is: annoying and whining female.
She is hardly whining.... One could say she is: bothersome and troublesome. The "troubling" aspect could be that she has added to our hypersexual culture, our sex-saturated culture.
Which is, to give a fairly accurate description, "... hypersexuality is defined as a dysfunctional preoccupation with sexual fantasy, often in combination with the obsessive pursuit of casual or non-intimate sex; pornography; compulsive masturbation; romantic intensity and objectified partner sex for a period of at least six months."
Has Madonna added to that? One can argue that she has.
Is it a bad thing? Well, coming from a conservative belief system, well, I'd say it runs counter to traditional values.

If it's yuck, you fuck -- ha ha! :) :) :)
But Madonna has become quite depilated/hairless over the years as is evident in these pics.
But she has always flirted with androgyny: bushy eyebrows, hairy arms and armpits.
Plus Madonna, as she acknowledges, sees herself as a gay man.
But, again, she's an interesting mix of masculine and feminine and she certainly raises the issue of identity politics, I think -- :)

I used to go to good will and pick up old albums for a quarter each, they had tons of Madonna albums, she was probably most interesting when she was a social climber in New York before she got famous. Back then she lived in some shit apartment where she got raped once and was always getting robbed. When she sang then, she actually sang and didn't have all this choreography bullshit like now, she had a really worthy voice when she first started.
All that self promotion gets sickening pretty quick, though, how many times can Madonna shock us?
Artistically, she's more J-Lo than Dylan, she's a lot truer to herself than Kim Kardashian or Britney Spears, but that's not saying much. I actually like the original nudes she shot when she was starving, I don't think she actually started selling her own nudes until after Penthouse ran the ones she got no money for.

That's why I like her -- ha ha! ;)
Actually, I don't think any woman is a skank.
I mean, you can certainly dislike her music. Ya know, too commercial, as it were. Or even dislike her politics: too liberal, as it were.

From her Sex Book.... Um, the cunnilingus simulation pic is dir-teee -- ha! ha! ha!

Since you already draw the comparison, can I mention that every name in that post is a no-talent attention whore? The whole reason you put out a book like sex, or release a porn movie (like Paris and Kim) is because you don't really have the talent needed to succeed in the business you are aiming for (unless it's porn, then a porno certainly helps). If Madonna was ever about the music, she should have kept a style and worked at it. She wasn't, she "evolved" into something else every time people got sick of her act. Can't get by on being just sexy, become offensive and stir up the religious folks (from Like a Virgin to Like A Prayer), people getting used to you being offensive, go back to being sexy-ish, and just push it further with a nude photo album. Ok, people have seen your twat, time to get serious and act. Your acting is so horrible that people won't come out to see your best film, which you do what you're supposed to be best at, signing, uh oh, time try music again, album won't sell, well you've already ripped off Grace Slick, and Grace Jones, why not copy Cher's lead and do dance music... and so on and so on. I don't get her at all. Even her "Greatest" hit song, Like A Virgin, doesn't hold up well over time. She'll never be included in any serious music discussion. No one is saying Elvis, Beatles, Zeppelin, and Madonna. But, it's never been about music with her, it's always been about her tits, which honestly, aren't that impressive. I don't get the love for her. I really wanted to have your back on this, but I just can't. Around 1984, I totally would have. Now, she's just that creepy old cougar lady up the block who thinks she can still pick up the boys who are laughing at her.

Sorry man, tried to get behind you on this one, I dug her in the 80's when I going through puberty, can't do it now, even with the older pictures. I had the first two albums, can't listen to them now. I pretty much got them for her looking hot on the covers, now that I think about it.

Thought she was hot in her early days when she was softer and more girly - at least to me. she's also a doppelganger for my first real girl friend Angelina - God, I loved making out with that girl

Ugly then, ugly now. Not even young unless you dig that unibrow and megabush action.

And now? -- shit she's a *totenkopf* worthy of an SS lieutenant's dress leather.

I have to agree, she is not hot at all, she always looked yuck to me. And that much hair between her legs, I don't like that, but that's her right to rock that.
