Yeah, I remember Playmakers. It showed what goes on behind the scenes in The NFL. The NFL wants to uphold a squeaky clean image. The show challenged that effort! It had to be taken off the air if ESPN wanted to stay on the good side of The NFL.

The decision to take the show off the air paid off for ESPN. They are now hosting Monday Night Football!

meanwhile local fans in certain markets without stadium sellouts will not be seeing their local teams on Sundays.

you would think the cocksuckers who comprise the governing body of the NFL would address the issue of ticket prices being totally unaffordable. Instead, they'd rather enforce a 40 year-old policy and punish average working class fans by blacking out their teams from TV

I thought it was because they play football, but I think I missed the point of the thread's title. ;-)

yeh, although Playmakers was nominated for awards and actually
won awards, the sheer pressure from the NFL sank it after the
first season.

Can't dare bump toes with your biggest ratings getter
and marketer. i really loved Playmaker series. It covered virtually every issue and controversies in the NFL. Pissman tactics, ...murder-cover ups (see Ry Lewis story) .. steroids, ...homosexuality, ..wife- beating, ...drug abuse,... paralysis,... heat stroke,... diabetes,.. dealing with a Vick-type QB,.. abusive asst coaches, ..special star treatment, ..nightclub life, infidelity,.. pain killers, ..surprise maternity issues , etc.
My favorite character was Demetrius "D.H." Harris. (played by Omar Gooding - the brother of vet actor Cuba Gooding Jr. ) smooth, selfish, cocky and naughty.

My hope was that another cable broadcast station would buy out the
rights to Playmakers and continue to produce/broadcast the series.

i dont think it would be a bad idea for a good number of fans
of the series to write, call or email these cable studios ( Spike TV,
Showtime, A&E, VH1, ?) and express their desires to see it.

After WWF's failed XFL I thought for sure that Vince McMahon was gonna try and pick it up. But since it is owned by ESPN I doubt they are gonna actually sale it's rights.
