Anybody seen the movie Serenity yet? It's a pretty damn good flick. I never watched the series is was based on, but you don't really need to have to get what's going on.

There's even one character who, I swear to God, looks just like Vaniity. It was uncanny. Morena Baccarin, looks just like her.

I think we has some posts about Serenity in another thread. Yes, Morena Baccarin is gorgeous and sexy. I hadn't thought about her resembling Vaniity, but I guess there is some resemblance. The movie is excellent, far better than the last three Star Bores! I was a little surprised at some of the decisions they made regarding certain characters, but it all worked.

A great movie with a great looking lady. I Saw it opening night with about ten friends figuring we would be the only ones there. Surprisingly, it was packed.

Sadly enough it didn't do the numbers it needed to. No more sequels or ressurected show.

Sad to say, it may well be true. Here's the numbers to date:

Domestic Total as of Oct. 23, 2005: $24,182,000 (Estimate)

Budget: $39 million

TOTAL LIFETIME GROSSES
Domestic: $24,182,000 79.2%
+ Overseas: $6,369,352 20.8%
= Worldwide: $30,551,352

Thing is, to do a proper followup, Whedon probably needs at least 40-50 million budget, which isn't likely for a movie that grosses only 30.

Yeah, it's not like they really advertised it either.

Only if you were tuned into the SciFi channel, which just isn't a big enough audience share (despite the quality of BG and the improved quality of the SG series with Browder and Black added to the cast). Plus I'd bet that audience is really big on buying DVDs, but again too small for the production requirements of such a movie.

It's a shame when people are always lamenting the sorry state of most summer blockbusters yet turn out in droves for drek and ignore quality.

I never saw the TV show will that effect the movie for me? Meaning is the movie stand alone or do you have needed to watch the show?

The movie stands alone, but if you watched the show (which comes on at 7pm, Friday Sci-Fi Channel) the relationships would hold more weight. The movie gives you a good idea of why the characters act a certain way towards each other though.
