Especially since the soviets would have probably let him go on unopposed long enough to win in the west. It was a blatant revisionist reading of the past war; in WW1 the whole point of the August offensive was to defeat France by taking Paris BEFORE the British could come ashore to combine with the French into a large force. After defeating the French, the Germans were to turn around, defeat the British, jump in trains, and go face the Russians without a major stalemated front in the West.

Even in WW2, the Russian mobilization tables were massive because of how unindustrialized they still were. That's why the Germans went threw Belgium to France instead of through the shared German-French boarder before in WW1- it was faster and they were racing against the Russian mobilization time table. the clocks would have started the moment the Germans boarded their trains in Germany to head to the front, if detected that early.

Racism is a form of sterotyping , normally due to past experiences of a group of people or when you have heard stories from others. In this case Gates decided through his past experiences and judgement that a cop acted in a certain way because the cop was white and he was a Black man. He didn't look at other possibilities for the cops behaviour and subsequent decision to arrest him.

Any Black person or indeed white person who buys into Gates thinking is also guilty of racism. There is an argument for suggesting the Police overeacted just like the American Police often do when their orders are not followed.But it certainly didn't have anything to go with Gates skin colour. The Black officer there said himself that if he had arrived on scene things might not have escalated to the arrest of gates. But that Crowley had done everything by the book.Ergo Gates had a problem being queried over his identity by a white officer.

If a Black officer was called to my address because of a neighbours telephone call because she saw someone 'me' forcing entry , who then asked me to prove who I was I would be pleased he turned up. Especially as apparently gates property has been broken into in the past. I wouldn't start ranting about the officer being prejudiced , and make an insulting comment about his mother. I wouldn't see his colour but his uniform .So how am I a racist? If the Black officer I felt had acted unreasonably I wouldn't think it was to do with my skin colour but maybe he was just a cock. I would have made a complaint later when cooler heads had prevailed. Thats what Gates should have done.

Put it this way, if Gates had been a white working class man and he had acted like Gates did, he would probably be thrown into the back of a Police van like a sack of potatoes, and his cane chucked in after him.I have seen this first hand in my old job, indeed in what I currently do. Some Police do behave more sensitively towards minorities than they would to others. So perhaps there was some discrimnation going on here but not in the way many race card people think? I can't see the like of Alsharpton or Obama getting up in arms about that...

It could well happen. There are white racists just like Black racists. A white racist could see the cops skin colour first and feel this is a Black man taking advantage of his uniform to get back at 'whitey' because some Black people like to even the score. I dealt with something similar when a white female felt a Black female traffic warden was purposely harrassing her because she was a racist and the white female lied about what the Black traffic warden said to her.

I know about Americas history I remember Ali talking about his experiences after he won the olympics. But surely Black people acting like Gates and Obama jumping to conclusions before he had all the evidence isn't going to help people? That's as blatant as a fallacy as there ever was one.

If a cop demands to see ID and doesn't get an immediate full compliance, and is instead yelled at by a belligerent civilian- you can bet your ass that civilian is going to pay for it whether it be being tased, beaten, ticketed, or arrested on fake charges.

How many videos have we seen in the last 3 years where someone -OF ANY RACE- mouthed off to the cops and got a beat down because of it? Seriously; this is a real problem that goes down everyday in this country, it is not a straw man tactic nor is it a race problem.

Its an abuse of power problem; plain and simple. Cops do NOT have the right to tase people, beat people, or arrest people for simply being rude.

If gates had mouthed off to this cop as a white person, you bet he would have paid for it. The only thing that saved Gates was his affiliation with Harvard. If this had been a normal every day civilian, of either race, there would have been no story... or worse, the youtube video of the arrest would have been posted so people can laugh at him for "getting what he deserved for not complying" like everyone did with the "don't taze me bro" incident (whose victim, btw, was not black).

Try this as a social experiment; get a bunch of white guys, have them go driving around the city as if they're drunk (speeding, swerving, running lights) and instruct them to immediately become belligerent verbally towards the cop(s) when pulled over. I would bet good money that in most cases, they would be "punished" for their words. Cops are trained, informally in some cases, formally in others, to not tolerate that.

The cop that arrested Gates was employing a tactic used in domestic disturbances that they actually TRAIN COPS TO USE. This wasn't a random case of a cop getting pissed off, this was him reacting the way his training told him to.
