"The 1960s was the decade that ran from January 1, 1960 to December 31, 1969. The 1960s term also refers to an era more often called The Sixties, denoting the complex of inter-related cultural and political trends in the west, particularly United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Australia and West Germany. Social and political upheaval was not limited to these countries, but included such nations as Japan, Mexico, Yugoslavia and others." [wiki]

I love the 60s eventhough I never witnessed it. Anyhow, so many fantastic songs made during that era. So pick your favourite and give a (youtube or whatever) link if can. One song per post.

My choise for this opening post is
The Beach Boys - God Only Knows

That's the opening & closing numbers of the play ~Hair~. I actually saw the play 3 times in '69 & '70. It was different every time, & tackled every social issue of the day.

gamma aries, thank you so much for that link there was a cool Beach Boys toon on you-tube from that era as well(I Get Around).During the 80's I had to relocate to Virginia from Los Angeles and you talk about home sick.I wanted to associate myself with anything California related so I really developed a love for beach music.Even though I'm into heavy metal these days I still have a great appreciation for surf music. 8)

There is no way I can choose an all-time favorite song from the sixties, so I'll just go with a classic piece of Philly Soul..."Cowboys To Girls", by The Intruders.

Candy Says

Interestingly enough, there's a documentary coming out about her either later this year or next.

The Velvet Underground are perhaps my favorite band in the universe and Candy Says is one of Lou's most beautiful songs.
