All the Crow movies following the first could probably be considered cult films, considering how badly they did in the theatres (some of them never even made it to the big screen).

So... I'm gonna say the 2nd one.

Sounds like people are playing pretty fast and loose with what they call cult films...which certainly comes as no surprise, considering the cinematic ignorance and bad taste that the overwhelming majority of people who post about movies at HA exhibit....

And now that I've actually posted in one of creepy James Hunt's threads for the first and hopefully last time, I think that I'll go wash my hands....

What do you consider a cult movie? Blood & guts and B-movies are not the only cult movies.
A cult film is a film that has acquired a highly devoted but specific group of fans. Just because you are not a fan of the movie doesn't remove it from the cult fan list, sorry.

I've read it. I didn't understand much of it but I did read it.

The movie and the book are very different, by the way. The book is almost impossible to make a movie out of since it's so surreal and fragmented so what Cronenberg did was take bits and pieces from Burroughs other books as all as his own life and patched together a story. As wacked- out a movie Naked Lunch was, it doesn't come close to the original book for sheer lunacy.

Currently that would have to be Sweet Movie. I rented it from the public library, I'm kind of amazed that it is even legal in the United States. Sounds intriguing...anyone mentioned 'Irreversible' with M. Bellucci? If you've seen it, you won't soon forget it.

So many people have told me about Irreversible and I still haven't gotten around to seeing it. I must correct that situation soon. I gather it's not exactly a 'feel good' movie.

No, not a feel good movie, not even with MB buck nekkid...it's that disturbing....but speaking of Sophia Loren's successor Monica...there's is also another riveting and a brilliant film of Monica's that you might wanna check out....

...it's based on a horrifying true story that has inspired several novels and another recent movie with Ashley Judd....I've only seen the censored version of '...Girl Next..' and it really creeped me out...

Blue Velvet

It's one of the movies I've seen the most times although I rarely watch things more than once.

I dunno either, but great choice. :-)

I watched Inland Empire a few months back, but I need to watch it again. It's non-linear to the extreme, and that's saying someyhing if you're familiar with David Lynch. But the acting is excellent, and so was the cinemaphotography. Kind of amazing too that it was shot on video. Anyway, Laura Dern was perfect in it. But, as usual, it was panned by the critics, like most of his work, because it was not a conventional plot.

Oh, and btw, Nina Simone is on the soundtrack doing "Sinnerman", and I fucking LOVE that song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn5tiuZU4JI

Angel Heart (1987)
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
Army of Darkness (1993)
Boxing Helena (1993)
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

Most of these cult films are simply good but overlooked films. Scarface did well at the box office, but was maligned by the critics. The Rocky Horror Picture Show practically redefined the cult movie as we know it. The rest fall into the category of "so bad that they are good".

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly isn't really an example of a cult film insofar as it did well at the box office and critics generally liked it. I think it is one of the best Westerns ever made.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
A Boy and His Dog
From Dusk til Dawn
The Big Lebowski
Jackie Brown
The Day the Earth Stood Still

Not necessarily in that order.

I hadn't heard about the remake. Do you remember who's doing it? I hope they don't botch it. The newest "Day the Earth..." doesn't hold a candle to the Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal version (IMO).

I was told it was going to be an animation, so, :shrug , who know's how that's going to turn out!!!
A brave move, it may have promise! (i *do* like the lotr animation!)

I haven't seen the remake of "Day the Earth...", i've been avoiding it...I just *know* i'm going to be dissapointed!

As the toon girl I can't say I don't like animation, but a lot more it is bad than good. So here's hoping for a happy result.

If you ever see the new "Day the..." be prepared for the shock and awe of special effects wizardry, and a total absence of promise and mystery. Oh, and stay out of the way of Keneau Reeve's ego.

I'm not sure what constitutes a cult film anymore, but I really like all of these.

Female Trouble, Liquid Sky, Show Girls, Valley of the Dolls, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, Mommie Dearest, Rosemary's Baby, etc.

There are so many good films that have cult followings tho', and so many walk the fine line of classic and cult.

I'd say if I have any porn cult fave, The Devil in Miss Jones is it.

Rock Hudson stars as a HS football coach that screws coeds, and who may or may not be a serial killer!!

Screenplay by Gene Roddenberry, yeah, THAT Gene Roddenberry, trekkies!!
Angie Dickinson co-stars as a sub teacher who helps to relieve a student's 'sexual tension'!!
One of the greatest teen movies ever from the 70s!! I had to see it for Angie Dickinson in her prime, hard to believe she's almost 80!!

When I was a kid I saw Polyester in the theater. It was presented in something called "Odorama". When you walked in, you give the usher your ticket and he gives you this big card with 10 numbered circles on it. While the movies plays, a number flashes on the screen right before the smell so you didn't know what to expect. It was always a bad smell like smelly shoes or gasoline. What I remembered most was afterwords my fingers smelling worse than if I digitally pleasured Shelley Winters' corpse. BTW, the movie is hysterical even without the "Odorama".

FUCK YEAAA!!!! Divine was a hardcore chick and I love it. She played the whackiest roles and made them come to life. I wondered if they really had Ordorama cards like they do 3d glasses. I am also looking for a copy of the Interview magazine Divine as on the cover of and interviewed in. I hid the interview under my mattress and read it every night.
I knew drag was always meant to be in my life, one way or another.

Not sure if it qualifies as a cult film or not, but I consider it one. Greatest film of all time in my opinion. Billy Bob, Dwight Yoakum and John Ritter put in three of the greatest performances of all time. Not to mention the script and directing of Mr. Thornton.

Sling Blade is an excellent film. "I'll have some french fried 'taters mhmmmmm"

Also, since my photo disappeared above, I mentioned Bubba Ho-Tep as one of my favorites. Also, I love a lot of the cult horror films: Nekromantik, Cannibal Holocaust, almost anything by Fulci.

Hey, Dino. I thought it was interesting that K. Russell actually threw in a few very Psycho-esque scenes towards the end of Crimes of Passion. Crimes explored two of Russell's favorite themes; the hypocrisy of Catholicism, and the persecution of saintly prostitutes. Russell was pretty clear about those two concepts in much of his work.

Knowing you, Dino, you're probably familiar with these other awesome Russell films But, if not, here are two more I'll bet you'd also like.
