Anyone have any experience with using your iphone abroad?? is it OK--a nightmare?

i cant get straight answers from AT&T---i know there are plans and ways to turn off data and roaming....just wondering what peoples personal experience is?

Im still with verizon but want an Iphone badly--so many love it --some insist At-T is the devil and to stick with a Blackberry--but Im an Apple guy

whats a guy to do?

Don't see why it would be any different from any other phone abroad? Turn of the data - and you have your phone to use? I've traveled with a US phone all over.

well--it nice to HAVE the data of course--and access to your emails etc..
but the iphone isnt like any other phone...thats what makes it cool..
so filled with interesting apps etc,..
but those same things make it very data intensive...

but senchai--you dont notice cause when you travel--youre too busy gazing at gorgeous trannies:)

careful with data usage.

long story short. He bought 100mb internatinal data plan.
used 12.7 + 87.4 = 100.1mb

at&t said he used 251mb.

5$ for every 1mb over 100mb data plan...

suggestion for anyone traveling abroad from their native country with an iPhone:
backup your phone's important data
jailbreak your phone
buy a gsm sim card native to the location you're at
enjoy your phone

remember to restore your phone when you get back home, or leave it as is up to you

*goes back on vacation*
