ROTN, I haven't seen that movie in forever.

Here, check this out:

...with some you probably never knew were "remakes."

WTF, they want to do a remake of They Live?! That was an awesome John Carpenter movie. So first they remake Assault on Precinct 13, then Halloween, now They Live? What about Big Trouble in little China? Or, better yet, his entire filmography.

As long as people keep going to these type of films, Hollywood is going to keep churning them out.

American Werewolf in London is such a good movie ... Dont fuck it up w/ a CGI wolf! If it must be done , then keep it practical and use cgi only to blend and enhance.

I think there's at least seven remakes of New Wave Hookers out there and about four or five Devil in Miss Jones's. Not to mention the Taboo series which probably runs in triple digits by now.

Maybe if they did then the shark would work this time.
This is the problem though. If everything had worked right in the original;, it wouldn't have been as scary. The malfunctioning shark (which would be all CGI now) left the director and editor to rely on that unforgettable "Jaws" theme and our imaginations to really scare us. And of course your imagination will conjure up fear worse than any graphic display of dismemberment ever will. Just someone swimming along, and those first two notes of the music, duh-dunh......... All that watery blackness underneath you, who knows what could be waiting....but we all know, cuz we've heard the music start. That person in the water is in TROUBLE like nobody knows. You cannot replace that terror with a bazillion dollars worth of hi-tech, everything-spelled-out-for-you visuals. I'm boycotting all this garbage.

That Jaws theme, as simplistic as it was, is much more effective than all the high-tech imagery in the world.

I'll gladly join you in the boycott.

I don't consider it a remake if it's based on a book ie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I actually think Robocop will be amazing with Darren Aronofsky behind the project. The original, while revered by many, isn't all the spectacular.

Man on Fire was another remake I found successful.

Aside from remaking old movies and tv shows, i think they should stop remaking japanese horror films, seriously they are remaking two classic movies old boy and sympathy for lady vengeance.

Oldboy was awesome, though it's based on a comic and I believe they're adapting from that. Though it's fucking Will Smith, so he'll ruin it.

I agree. I have never been disgusted by a film before in terms of quality .But that changed when I saw the remake of 'get carter'. They destroyed what was a cult British classic. They chose slyvester stallone of all people be play Jack Carter. Of all people Sly... In the original Michael Caine played jack. Sly while he is great for playing brain damaged boxers and one man armies is not the best person to play a psychopathic highly intelligent gangster who had no soft touchy feely side, which stallone tried to put into a film to appeal to more sentimental american audiences.

The orginal was set in a tough gritty northern English town, The remake was in seattle USA. In my opinion it was also this that gutted that film.

To be honest Hollywood does seem like it is drying out of ideas. Not much is made now that appeals to me. I think the last film I saw made by hollywood which I thought was good was 'American Gangster' . I think Hollywood do better to make more action films and find stallone and Arnie replacements.

Many of my mates are still watching old classics such as Rocky and commando. They were tacky yes but they provided spinchter tightenining entertainment. I also think they could maybe do some more WW2 movies but make them more about various personalities and hero's , I was reading the biography of an amazing soldier called Paddy Mayne and it was so mindblowing to read he could be made into a film himself. The Americans would love him, he was Northern Irish (the Yanks do love the irish) ,extremely physically strong a heavy drinker with a quick temper who was thrown in jail for attacking a senior officer , a man who's exploits in war made him one of the highest decorated British officers of ww2, rumoured to be homosexual, and had a tragic end, survived the war but died in a car crash drunk because the Police were worried he would kill them with his bare hands so were afraid to pull him out.
