NYPD had a cam across the street from Edelweiss for years. They sent in undercover cops and patrolled the block in undercover taxis. I shit you not. Giuliani was a serious sex-hater. I find it quite poetic that his prostate rotted. Maybe if he drained that backed up bulb once in a while, it wouldn't have petrified. Good riddance, and don't expect to be nominated for president, asswipe. All Rupugnicans think the same - control what you can and hope it will affect what you can't.

JohnnyWalkerBlackLabel, I feel for you and the citizens of New York, but Chicago is the leading city of Big Brother watching.

Chicago has a bunch of cameras everywhere. We have cameras that will take your picture of your car running a red light at various intersections. We have cameras on various street to watch for crime. In the next couple of years the City of Chicago is suppose to have a traffic light system that uses cameras and adjust the traffic lights according, in order to reduce traffic. Personally, I am sick of big brother watching us.

BRAVE NEW WORLD

Some high-tech strategies to cut Chicago's traffic congestion:

# Smart traffic lights at 2,800 intersections that use computerized cameras and sensors to ''self-adjust'' with traffic conditions and turn green for approaching CTA buses. Cost: $75,000 to $250,000 per intersection.

# Downtown streets leading to and from expressways with dedicated lanes for high-occupancy vehicles.

# Cameras that photograph vehicles using bus lanes for ticketing.

# Tow trucks dispatched with police and fire vehicles to arrive within 10 minutes to move disabled vehicles and delivery trucks blocking lanes.

# 50 permanent message boards to detour motorists around accidents and bottlenecks.

# Traffic control aides pedaling to the scene on bicycles.

# Construction permits electronically mapped to deny applications when projects conflict with special events.

# 250 transportation and police employees reassigned to Traffic Management Authority (http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-traffic15.html)

New city police cars will have cameras (http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-copcar25.html)

Neighbors divided over Chicago's crime-busting cameras (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/techpolicy/2004-04-30-chicago-police-cams_x.htm?POE=TECISVA)

I've heard that London has more cameras than any other city.

Quite true!

London seems like the control freak capital of the world, I am not surprised by this

but NY'ers, as much as we rant & rave about everything you figure this camera shit would have been abolished

I've heard that London has more cameras than any other city.

This is true; it was a response to the IRA's mainland bombing campaign. A number of former IRA commanders have since cited this as the main reason for their cessation of the aforementioned campaign. 26+6=1.

NYPD had a cam across the street from Edelweiss for years. They sent in undercover cops and patrolled the block in undercover taxis.

More info about the undercover taxi
• Taxis with medallion numbers started in 6Y are the cop cabs.
• They like to cruise the West 20s megaclub area late on weekend nights, looking for people drinking in public, urinating in public, or generally being drunken idiots.
• They typically don’t have meters, have a different style of license plate, and sport a solid black antenna.
• The 10th precinct in Chelsea has one, and it’s often parked out front, on West 20th Street.

I'm not surprised. If the American govt could legal put cameras in your house you could bet your ass you'd have thousands of americans under DAILY survaillance

I don't understand why you guys are surprised. Haven't any of you read the book 1984? The Orwellian theory? Every time there is a high profile case, terrorits attact, etc. the gov uses it to pass another bill to infrenge on what used to be your civil liberties.
