I think we'd be fooling ourselves if we refused to acknowledge that, in western society at least, youth is stressed quite heavily for determining the sexual "attractiveness" of women.

Why do you think female entertainers in general obsess so much about trying to stay young; be it from plastic surgery, botox, etc.? It's because their careers' lifespan (even when we're just talking about Tv or movie actresses) is based on how young they look. Post-menopausal career options for women in entertainment are quite lower, especially if compared to say, people under 25... that's not coincidental.

To say nothing about all the ways roles, personality, and maturity are taken into consideration with hetero guys' perceptions of sexual attractiveness. I.e. the whole "girly," boubly, cheery performances stereotypical of little girls that are incorporated into adult sex norms.... you see far more girls, IRL or in porn, pretending to be younger than they are for the benefit of guys then then you see girls pretending to be older. Example: school girl outfits, calling guys "daddy," I could go on and on with examples.

It's probably greatly abnormal (statistically) in our society for women to pretend to be older for men in similar settings. We have all these "school girl" and "barely legal" roles, but when was the last time you saw a girl pretending to be significantly older to be in the "role" of a mom, grandmother, teacher, or calling their partner "son" instead of daddy, etc?

These are generalities of course, but I don't know of a sociology, psychology, or anthropology program that fails to discus this in the academic world because its so easy to illustrate using examples everyone is familiar with.

But I'm not sure I would suppose that one could easily label most men as pedos. Even the law itself can't accurately draw these distinctions, that's why so many states use a soft-line instead of a hard-line.
