Seriously, if you haven't seen this show, do yourself a favor and watch it. I guarantee you won't be able to stop watching it. Superb acting and realism. Easily the best television series of our time. Too bad it's starting to gain more popularity after it's run. At least it went out on a high note.

As a Baltimore Police Officer, I say its as real as they come, for cop shows.

Loved it. It was always in the plan to end it after 5 years. I met Sonja Sohn "Kima" in a Baltimore after hours club. She told me they were worried that HBO was going to cancel them before the could finish.

The Wire is a very good show. I'm an even bigger fan of The Shield, OZ, 24, and Deadwood.

That Glenn Close show? When is that dude going to stop playing female characters?

I would agree that it will go down in TV history as a superior show. I watched all seasons. The last was a bit of a let down compared to the previous, which was so good it hurt!
I'm impressed by the number of its actors I get to see showing up in other series.

It will be missed.

BTW... Weeds will be back next week
Cant wait for Dexter too

For fans of The Wire, I highly recommend this interview with its creator, David Simon:

Damages is a good show. I've been on board since Season 1 Episode 1. Glenn Close was also great in The Shield the season she played Captain Monica Rawling.

very well said. season 2 was the best season imo and i watched it in one day, morning to night. i couldn't stop watching it and i just had to know what was gonna happen next. but i will say that while the wire is an outstanding show, i think 'the shield' has it slight (just slightly) notched.

It's in my Top 5 for sure, WAY better then the Shield could ever hope to be, unless you like fake bullshit.

the shield is like the wire in that you cant just watch one episode. you have to watch it from start to finish to be able to appreciate it. and yeah, using real gangsters instead of hiring actors is pretty "fake bullshit."

The Wire also used real gangsters as well as real police officers from Baltimore. To compare The Shield to The Wire is madness.
