View Full Version : Musicians you're attracted to...

I was doing some research for anthropology of music and came to the startling realisation that I have a very defined type.

That is a type of woman that sends me into a stupid lovesick daze whenever I see them.

Sarah Blasko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSQvQ-TjYnY)

Katy Steele (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgxEIMnnEbc)

Patience Hodgson (singer) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FBwzSZl0IM)

They're all brunettes, kinda quirky, light-hearted Aussie musicians

What about everyone else? Post up pics or vids of musicians who set you off.

This is about artists whose look does the business? Or their voices?

Anyway, Shakira does both for me: one of the best pop songwriters ever, incredible singer and performer, and drop-dead gorgeous too.

...And I can't not have Daniela Mercury; this woman is just so much fun. And a great musician. And beautiful. And Brazilian.

What more can I say?

MacShreach

In English-language pop music, there's not much to say; the industry is suffering from drastic contraction and a level of conservatism that I have not seen since the late seventies/early eighties.

There are a few great women (this thread is obviously about women, right, for men, anyway) in pop like Pink, and the tragic Amy Winehouse, who have already fostered a host of imitators, but what is surprising is that the blues continues to turn up great, great musicians. Many of the best to appear in the last decade have been women, and many have moved away from the sultry front-woman with a backing band format and become real driving forces.

Sue Foley: Great songwriter, singer, guitar-player and yes, gorgeous...being red-head doesn't hurt either. And she can get down and sweaty with the best.

MacShreach

Heather Nova produced four albums, Oyster, Siren, South and Storm, which really established her creds as a pop songwriter, a reputation she continues to build on. She is also a great live performer, has an amazing voice and, you guessed it, is devastatingly gorgeous.

Kate Bush-- Creative, sensitive, emotional--a great, original songwriter with a beautiful voice. Kate has been surprising me with her music for a long time. And you can't argue about how attractive she is.

Anneke van Giersbergen from The Gathering, a Dutch band.

Probably the most atmospheric and emotional voice I have ever come across in rock. Like a fresh and sensual winter breeze meets metal menacing, barbed wire fire. An example in sound here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up3AHE33d4I&feature=related

Hope Sandoval, lead singer for American band Mazzy star, and solo artist. Lingering, ethereal voice flying over cool psychedelia. A velvet underground feel for the 21st century. I could listen to her reading Kim Il Sung books and still find it sexy.

Katie Melua, I think she is from Hawaii. Surely a growing talent, but most certainly a very beautiful young woman.
Her 'biggest hit': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTy3WA0Pq8M

I have no definition for beauty, nor do I have any pre requirements to begin to appreciate it. If there were a few, then I guess it would be about subtility and sensitivity.

Pat Benatar. She's been ripping it up since the 70's and she is still making great music. What is often forgotten is that the other half of Pat is the brilliant and largely unsung guitarist Neil Geraldo; together they are a brilliant pop songwriting outfit.

Got to respond with my two cents on this one...
I agree, DANIELA MERCURY from Brazil is drop dead gorgeous but I heard she is a real hassle to work with!
Loved the hawaiin girl that was posted
then the obvious ones:
Alicia Keys

Sade
Mmmm they are so beautiful, but Ill say one star (not a singer) that just completly melts me to the core is JESSICA ALBA. I dunno what it is, but she really is the cats meow to me!

A couple more from me.

Adalita from Aussie band Magic Dirt. Statuesque Amazonian guitar playing goddess.

Stephanie Ashworth from Aussie band Something for Kate. Crap band but another proof of my theory that all female bassists are gorgeous

So many to choose from. I could make a list for days of the women of music I've been attracted to. I'll try to keep it small though.

Pat Benetar, Kate Bush, Siouxsie, PJ Harvery, Jane Wiedlin, Stevie Nicks, Sade, Lisa Loeb, every lady from En Vogue, Rihanna, Toni Braxton, Joan Jett, Shakira, Liz Phair, Olivia Newton John, Susanna Hoffs, Victoria Beckham (Ok, musician may be debatable), Sarah Macleod (from the Aussie band "The Superjesus."), and newly discovered Ryder Monroe.

But my two favorites have always been my favorite Japanese Singer/Musician "hitomi" and "Roxy Petrucci," the drummer for Vixen.

Hizaki, from a group called Versailles, and Boo, from An Café. Still mysterious land, Japan, with very different traditions.

A few years ago I went with my girlfriend to an off Broadway production of Rocky Horror and Joan Jett was part of the cast. They had so much genuine fun and updated it so she could rock & roll with her guitar and the fun part was - an old man sat next to us and started talking loud and my girl leaned over and said ..hey..stop talking....Turns out it was Dick Cavett and what we didn't notice was that he was playing the role of Narrator as part of the show.

Saw her in concert in May in Laughlin, NV. Outdoors concert and that place was packed. I knew it was gonna be a good concert but it turned out to be a great one. She opened for the Steve Miller Band, but once she was done with her set most of the people left before Steve Miller came out.

Sorry for the first pic, it was from the big screen the had. My VIP(in other words, $100 a ticket) seats were not that VIP in my opinion. The second pic is the closest I could get to the stage without being bounced out of there...
