my computer: 2 year old toshiba notebook, os is windows xp, hard wire cable isp, IE browser. have also tried firefox and aol

PROBLEM: I turn on computer and go to a web site and sounds come out of my speakers. Seems like a radio station feed. sometimes its people talking, commercials, music.
So annoying that I have to mute it and not use any sound functions. Can't listen to a youTube vid with all the backgroung shit. It doesn't go away regardless of which site I'm on.

any ideas ?

You my friend are experiencing "crosstalk".

Crosstalk is caused by radio frequency interference (RFI)from other
sources - cell phones, 2 way radio from cabs, etc.

You may want to try different shielded cables, or re-positioning your
speakers.

OMG
it's like when I was a kid and I had to move the rabbit ears around the room to get a clear TV pic

Wow. That is weird. With that being the case anytime a weird or unusual event happens regarding a computer I would suggest running both antivirus and spyware programs immediately. I would also go into Windows Task Manager and see if there are any new Processes that you don't recognize.

Looks like these people had something similar and offered some tips.

I moved the pc to a different spot in the room and the interference stopped. that was pretty easy.
thank you peggy

Glad it worked.

RFI would be the "usual suspect" in my book when I would triage this
problem, though malware like pointed out by CaptainGeech

would be next on the list.
