Probably old news for most, but a lass called Susan Boyle from a village in Scotland was on Brit got talent recently.
To look at she looks like a washer woman or housewife who wears a floral housedress and a pinnafore, which maybe true. Some of the Audience were laughing as she appeared on the stage and what ensued....hmm well you check it out.

Yeah I watched that video already and you could see the crowd, the judges and even the host was laughing at her. It's a sad thing that people tend to judge people by appearance. Although once she started singing you could see everyone's mouth just drop.

When did you die inside?Well she aint no Charlotte Church or Katherine Jenkins, hell the only reason people "like" the voice is Cowells reaction. Meh...

No that is not why people like her voice. That whole audience erupted, and do you think they saw Simon's reaction (especially since his back was turned to them)? You're entitled to your own opinion, but personally I think her voice was spectacular and that her performance was inspirational.

PS- I will say though that the 2 women you listed are incredible singers.

the audience erupted without seeing cowell's reaction. This is the audience who has been there all day and seen piss poor singers every 3 minutes, as soon as an average voice is heard they are riled up.

This is also a Variety show where contestants juggle, balance on balls and dance with dogs, a 15 year old juggler will get a scream from a crowd wanting entertainment much in the same way a guy jumping in jam whilst wearing a chicken suit. If I was to follow you around and cheer like you won the war on your own every time you opened a door, people would believe that there was something special about the way you opened it.

Think of it this way, you go to a porn site and you see a bunch of uggo's you wouldnt touch with a 9mm shell from a mile away, you see one average girl, she is now stunning. You hear singers sound in pain all day and grandma starts singing an almost lullaby type tune, the voice may not be a great voice but it still sounds like syrup.

I'm from pretty near where she lives

She has a great voice and will undoubtedly make a hell of a lot of money out of it but I think the reaction is waaaaaay over the top

She's good but she's not the greatest singer that's ever lived, I hope she milks it for as much as she can, the Great British public is spoon fed it's entertainment but I was quite surprised how much attention she's got in America

All the best to her

Very true...but apparently, you're not allowed to say that....You're bringing her down, mannnnnnnn!

For a local church choir singer, it undeniable, she has an incredible voice. Listen to her singing "Cry me a River" and it's pure sex.

but, for all those moved to tears at her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream", listen to the "Les Mis 10th Anniversary at Royal Albert Hall" CD to hear how it's really sung.

Sure but this is different, it's because people laugh at her
for the way she looks, how she's dressed and the way she act.

They all think, this is just for fun, we are gonna have a good laugh at her.
Untill she starts singing...

Never, EVER judge someone by their looks.

You're absolutely right. I saw the musical on broadway many, many years ago..and the audience was crying there too. It's like I been saying all along..she did a great rendition (she really did...even the song's writer said so)..but it's a beautiful song. For those that aren't familiar with the story (c'mon it's a classic..who doesn't know it?)..Fantine is left with a child out of wed lock by her lover. She gets fired from her job and is forced into prostitution to support her daughter.Long story-short: she eventually dies from an illness. She sings this song about broken dreams. The whole show's a tear jerker..and so are all the movie versions for that matter.

I agree..but the entertainment world is a hard world. Realistically, looks count - whether we like it or not.

I remember many years ago..girls used to fall in love with the songs of Christopher Cross..until he made the mistake of showing his plain looking, overweight self on the Grammys.

Ms. Boyle has a voice that would be fine in any musical..but her looks will stop her from getting any of those parts. She better cash in on this as quick as she can.I'm sure she'll make some cash..cause there be some genius marketing going on behind the scenes.

How is that different from any of the other acts on the show?

In the course of that series, how many "Susan Boyles" wil line up , with the audience baying for blood, and can't sing worth a shit?

It's a classic pratfall!

Don't get me wrong, i'm not deriding her, she has talent, she deserves to make a shit load of money off of that voice of hers, but....The Hype!

Unfortunately yes it is, shame this world has come to a point people get judged by the way they look and not for what's inside.

I don't care how people look, always had and will always have respect for everybody, no matter who or what you are.

I do hope for her she can make it into this harsh and cold blooded world
and she's getting my vote anyway.

But why the surprise? A geeky, funny looking person walks on the stage and then bombs them away, anyone remebers paul pots?

The Live aus Berlin DVD is good too. I saw them twice at the Hammerstein Ballroom in N.Y.C...once for the Sehnsucht album..and the last time for the "Mutter" tour. They always give you a good stage show featuring their usual array of pyrotechnics.

If you can ever catch them live...it's well worth your time.

It's the most patronising thing I've ever seen

The 19th anniversary concert is the ultimate performance, it's Ruthie Henshall isn't it?

The entire cast are flawless

I seen Rammstein in Glasgow a few years ago, what a show they put on

I've seen them three times allready, first time was at the late 80's in Belgium (they were not known by the 'BIG' public) 4 years ago in Antwerpen (Belgium)
and 2 months later in Dortmund (Germany).
