JWBL,

GREAT question! I'll be back with my answers shortly.

BUT, come on man, just BSG by itself has provided some astounding moments.

I'll be back...

#3 Alens: Colonial Marines landing and... well, running into more then they can handle in the end... close second Ripley beating up the Queen with the exoskeleton!

#2 Serenety: ...the final fight, from the scene where they lead the reavers into combat with the Alliance fleet, and especially River finally cutting loose and taking on the Reavers.

#1 Babylon 5: Most of it, but forever in my memory for effect will be the first time a Shadow Ship appears... though some of the Londo/G'Kar interactions come close to eclipsing that (especially the "pouring back the drink" scene)...

(as for the spoiler... yeah, the episode has not yet made its way to screens over here... though since I for one already strongly suspected something like that, well... it just makes me want to actually see it all the more...)

1. The Matrix. The bullet dodging scene. The whole movie really caught me off gaurd. I went in thinking is was going to be some lame sci fi flick. Came out shocked.

2. Star trek TNG. When Picard begs Q to stop the borg from chasing down the enterprise and Q just "pop" sends them away like nothing.

3. Empire Strikes Back. Luke, I....am your father!.

There is SO much to choose from. Yeah yeah, I know. I’m going overboard here… I’m an old nerd... :D

OK, 2 from TV land and 1 movie.

Space; Above and Beyond Part 2 – The Angriest Angel

[Colonel McQueen is about to go kill Chiggy Von Richtofen, the enemies ace flyer]

Priest: Colonel. Colonel! Colonel McQueen! Do you need to make peace with your maker.
Lt. Col. TC McQueen: My maker was some geek in a lab coat with an eyedropper and a petri dish. What do I need to make peace with him for?
Priest: In times of war we must all make peace with our maker.
Lt. Col. TC McQueen: Well, I don't think our maker wants to hear from me right now. Because he knows I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe. And when I get back, I'm going to drink a bottle of scotch as if it was Chiggy Von Richtofen's blood and celebrate his death.
Priest: Amen.

Of course, he's telling the priest all this right up in his grill...

The dog-fight that follows is classic Sci-Fi… The ENTIRE episode is fantastic.

I consider SAAB to be the real forbearer of BSG in tone, substance and style.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````` `````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````````
Star Trek: The Next Generation The Inner Light
The Enterprise encounters a space probe, which scans the ship, and sends a wave of energy into Captain Picard, rending him unconscious.
When Picard awakens, he has a wife, children and an entire life to be lived. He (Picard) gradually accepts his life as Kamin, and grows older along with family and friends on this world which is dying of a catastrophic drought.
He comes to be a very old man whom has outlived his beloved wife and a best friend. His dying world launches a space probe (yes, that one…) that he considers a waste of time and effort. During the launch he sees and speaks to his wife and his friend, both of whom have been dead for years now. They tell Kamin (Picard) that he knows exactly what that probe is good for. Goosebumps here and THEE scene…
Picard awakens on the Enterprise to learn that only minutes have passed aboard ship while he has experienced a lifetime!
I have left out A BUNCH of detail. What was a pretty low budget episode for STTNG, became a classic episode mainly because of Patrick Stewart’s MONSTER acting chops.
This guy is the real deal. He’ll probably never win an Oscar either.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````` `````````````````````````````````````````````````` `````
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

Although I consider The Empire Strikes Back to be the BEST film (by far) of the entire, mostly sorry, franchise, the scene where the Emperor is about to finish off Luke, and Darth picks that SOB up with his one good arm and tosses his ass to his doom, just freaken AWESOME!

I saw it in Houston when ROTJ first came out and at that scene everyone in the theater erupted in joyful pandemonium! Grown men shedding tears in public…

3. Firefly the Show by Joss Whedon - Pick pretty much any episode but the initial of the pilot when Wash is Playing with the Plastic Dinos and the dialogue that he comes up with them.

In another episode possibly one the best lines in Sci Fi history "Hey some people juggle Geese!"

2. Bill Paxton in Aliens when they are riding down to the planet as he screams "Were on an Express Elevator RIDE to HELL!!!" and "GAME Over MAN!!!" Yeah pretty much any of the Alien series of Which David Finchers is one of the most under appreciated.

1. Gattaca as a movie and a precursor but could have picked Fifth Element, The Day the Earth Stood Still, or many others.

Just my two cents or three as it is.

This is a rough one, and I'll probably remember another one later, when I've though about it more. But, for now, here are my top 3:

3 - BSG, season 3. Exodus (part 2). While the Galactica is jumping into the atmoshphere of New Caprica, "Hot Dog" Costanza's quote as he's about to launch from the tubes:
"Well, this should be different."

2 - Epire Strikes Back Of course you can't leave this movie out, just about the entire movie is worthy of this, but I'll have to go with the afformentioned, "I know." It's a close call between that and "You have your moments."

1 - DS9, Season 6: Waltz Two quotes following eachother making one amazing ending of and episode.
First is Dukat: "I have unfinished business on Bajor. They thought I was their enemy. They don't know what it is to be my enemy, but they will. From this day forward, Bajor is dead! All of Bajor!"
Followed by Sisko: "Sometimes life seems so complicated, nothing is truly good or truly evil. Everything seems to be a shade of grey. And then you spend some time with a man like Dukat, and you realize that there is such a thing as truly evil."

Ok, so that's what I thought of first. BSG and DS9 are full of so many amazing scenes, I'm sure I'm leaving something better out.
Also, does Jurassic Park count as scifi? If that's the case I'm missing a ton of great ones.

#1 2001 The Classic scene from 2001 a Space Oddesey. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc8BUSOPfcY) That creepy too calm voice of a killer computer which controls everything. Which is more funny than anything since all computers give us now is the web. Almost no one saw that one coming.

#2 Star Trek First Contact. The Borg capture data and try to assimilate him. How? By grafting skin on to him. After the first bit of skin is grafted on, and Data is talking about how it'll never work. Then the borg queen blows him (that bit of skin on his arm) This is Data's reaction at 4:57 of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9St4xfg03EY) Priceless classic.

#3 WarGames The whole movie. Most people I have meet who got into computers in the 80's (before everyone had a PC, and a smart phone, and/or some other thing that is more powerful than the PC's back then.) WarGames made the AirForce look so cool, it made computers look cool. It was cool. By the by they made a sucky sequel to this. It went direct to DVD.

Captain says to prisoner- "Do you know what the chain of command is?"
Prisoner-"No"
Captain- "It's the chain I'm gonna beat you with if you don't answer me"

The Matrix reloaded-
Scene with the frenchman where he explains- "there is only one real truth, causality, there is no action without reaction....."
-the truth about life summed up in one character's hubris, gotta love it!

Scarface-
"chi chi, get the yay-o"

In Dark City, when you first discover that the city is a space station.

The previously mentioned opera/fight scene from The Fifth Element.

Rutger Hauer's death scene in Blade Runner.

The freeway chase from The Matrix Reloaded gets an honorable mention, but technically speaking its more of an action/adventure scene than a sci-fi one.

Many great choices already here but I won't repeat any. So in no particular order :

1) The burly brawl in Matrix Reloaded
2) The StayPuft Marshmellow Man stomping around NYC in Ghostbusters
3) Guy kvetching about his imminent death on the mining planet in Galaxy Quest

Honorable mention - Officer Murphy's rebirth as Robocop

Since all the good scenes have already been mentioned, Star wars etc. I have only one scene that is burned into my mind forever, it's a simple statement spoken by a true Superman, Christopher Reeve.

1) The Beach scene in Planet of the Apes at the end
2) Heston's meltdown at the end of Soylent Green
3) Jonathon .. Jonathon chant at the end of Rollerball
4) Chestburster in Alien
5) "I aint got time to bleed" raid on the guerilla camp in Predator
6) 17 Days we aint gonna last 17 hours in Aliens ... basically any Hudson scene
7) Avatar final battle
8) Roy Batty's final speech in Blade Runner when we finally realise the so called villains were actually the good guys
9) Luke I am your Father
10) That initial battle at the start of Star Wars

Sorry, more than three, but duh! I'm a geek!

The entire episode of ST:TNG Best of Both Worlds (2 part cliffhanger) - I am Locutus of Borg!

Stargate movie when O'Neil and Jackson both look at the bomb, look at each other, and then say simultaneously (and somewhat ironically): 'I have an idea!'

The Phloston Paradise battle scene in The Fifth Element. Bruce Willis was absolutely perfect in that movie.

The scene in The Matrix Reloaded where the Architect spills his guts about The Matrix, the purpose of the one, and the choice Neo must make... again.

The scene in Star Trek First Contact in which they launch the Phoenix while Zephran Cochrane freaks out until he finds his launch music - Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf. The looks on Rikers and LaForge's faces are classic!

The scene in Contact in which Ellie meets 'her dad.' I don't care what anyone says about that scene. I found it extraordinarily touching after spending 2 hours connecting with her. And the final 'twist of faith' by Mr. Kitz was a stroke of genius by Carl Sagan.

I'm sure I'll back with more, but that's enough for now. :)

The chilling conclusion from the Russian version of Solaris by Andrei Tarkovsky when the camera pulls back to reveal that the principal character's family "home" in rural Russia is really part of the planet with the sea swirling around it. Wonderful metaphorical film and miles better than the US remake.

The scene in Evolution where David Duchovney explains why he couldn't bring himself to put an A on those babies.

This a cheat because it's not exactly a scene: I love the version of "itsy bitsy spider" that plays over the ending credits in Eight Legged Freaks.

The scene in Contact where they decode the first alien message and its an image of Hitler (the scenes and "broadcasts" in the opening are pretty awesome too).

Meh. I was never a huge Denise Crosby or Tasha Yar fan (I prefer Worf running security and tactical). But yeah, that scene in Tapestry was brilliant. It finally gave us an insight into Picard's youthful character... which naturally was badass. :P

1. "12.01" An obscure little film about a time loop, which you is worth tracking down if you can find it. This scene between the main character played by Jonathan Silverman and Helen Slater. (Ohhh, was Helen Slater so hot as Supergirl or what!!)
[Lisa enters her office to find Denk and Barry, whom she does not recognize, waiting for her.]
Barry:The Time Bounce has happened.
Lisa:Excuse me?
Barry:The Time Bounce. We're in it. The Earth has stopped as we know it. Children don't grow up. People don't stay dead. We'll never have another holiday, and you'll never see another flower bloom.
What are you talking about?
Lisa:And I've fallen in love with a beautiful young lady, and so far I could only see her for a few hours. And it breaks my heart to meet her every morning, a stranger. You see, I want her every day. I want her to grow old with me. That's why life is so precious: because time passes.
Barry:Who is this... Who is this girl?
[Barry steps closer to her with each following comment.]
Lisa:37-point-1. Oysters. Green. The Carpenters. Fly to Heaven.
[she gazes at him in wonder]
or...
When he answers the phone and says..
"Mom, I'll call you back. The day's repeating."

2. Pitch Black
When the character with the expensive bottles of wine gets separated from the group. His light goes out. He spits out brandy into a lighter to reveal he is surrounded by the hungry flying monsters.

3. Fifth Element
A tie between...
"Big budda-boom!" Milla Jovavich. So cute.
and...
"Chicken! Good!" Again, so cute. I say this everytime I cook something in the microwave, now. How annoying! but I love it.

A lot of classic SciFi has been mentioned in this thread - and a few turkeys.

I couldn't find a clip of it, but the final lines from 'The Thing from Another World' when reporter Scotty tells his radio audience to "Watch the skies, everywhere! Keep looking. Keep watching the skies" is a gem.

The various Star Trek shows and movies had some memorable stuff, but this clip is my personal favorite.

It's science fiction at it's best, a morality play. Probably Picard's best lines from the series.

I did actually. Unfortunately, they made her a former borg so there weren't enough slow motion running scenes ala Baywatch. I liked the hologram doc a bit too but they weren't enough to save Voyager.

When the Warhammer 40k movie is finally done, I'm hoping my top 3 will all be in it!

A tie between...
"Big budda-boom!" Milla Jovavich. So cute.
and...
"Chicken! Good!" Again, so cute. I say this everytime I cook something in the microwave, now. How annoying! but I love it.
Big Badda Boom, I say that when I see a gorge guy/gal..
Chicken Good.... Yea I say that when something tastes nice or I am about to put on a fave food in the microwave..
