Here is the deal,

I am leaving to go to Thailand for my FREE revision surgery this friday. Dr. Suporn offers his patients a free revision in his original price. I would like to express my gratitude to him and maybe the staff with a great gift. Maybe something for his lovely wife... I am confused...

What would you give a man who has everything? A great family, a very good business and I am sure plenty of blessings?

Help me with your suggestions please.

PS: Keep it clean! lol

He doesn't smoke - I gave him a really nice bottle of champagne last time and he says - Sorry i don't drink... I said fine... I need one... Pop it open!
I told him to keep it for a special occasion, but I was bummed.
His wife is lovely and I should get a gift basket for my private nurse as well... Ughhhh

Johnny, any suggestions on design? Probably something he could wear to a business dinner or an event?

I am sorry I am new to all this but if you are paying anything besides your procedure prices is ridiculous. What happened to a hear felt THANKS !, And a sense of gratification for helping another? Sorry I am confused by the cigars and watches......You are paying for the procedure right ? :?:

I have given gifts to people who have fulfilled their contractual obligations to me before, so I can understand the logic.

Sometimes people, even if they're people you're paying to do something- go above & beyond your expectations, in ways that warrant thanking them for it.

I still think it is sad. More sadly because of what has been said leads me to believe these doctors may even expect these "Bonuses". So these gifts are given prior to a procedure since you mention they go "above and beyond your expectations". For me that would raise a concern that i would need to provide a gift to get the job done right even though I am a paying customer.

I see your point but... He does a one stage operation and offers a free revision for those who chose to have them. Most people do not. When I was in Thailand there were a few girls getting revision.

This procedure in the states costs like 7 grand, he is doing it for free, aside from the monetary matter, the man changed my life. He "fixed me" I was his broken watch, he pulled me out of my own body which now resembles the closest to the real me as it can physically get in this lifetime that is...

I had a very spiritual experience in Thailand, the people were so generous and kind. I just feel like a physical offering could never really speak of how much gratitude I have, however, I wish to bring him a very special gift.

Hello Danielle it is a pleasure to speak with you.. I can't even imagine or even try to understand what I know nothing about. I am from North America where we bitch about doctors, procedures, money, wait times, etc(providing gifts is unheard of unless it is a live grendae :)*Joke*).

It makes me smile knowing you are now on the right track going forward in this crazy world. Maybe one day I may understand providing doctors gifts as well as money =)

Not just in business, I think people do not get the recognition they deserve most of the time. I always try to let people know how much I admire them. People have been making offers to saints, Gods, kings and each other since the beginning of time, I feel it is a very lovely gesture in which he will not take it wrongfully. He is a very honest and hard working man, it's in his blood, his religion and his people.

It has nothing to do with money as much as the gesture - He's done his work... I am not trying to buy the man into doing a better job then he already did, I just want to show him my gratitude. Ok I know you guys are men... but please tell me some of you see my point. lol

So rather then watching me make an ass of myself, Could somebody have told me this was a gift after a procedure as i was obviously not understanding ?

Gift Giving Etiquette in Thailand

. If invited to a Thai's home, a gift is not expected, although it will be appreciated.
. Gifts should be wrapped attractively, since appearance matters. Bows and ribbons add to the sense of festivity.
. Appropriate gifts are flowers, good quality chocolates or fruit.
. Do not give marigolds or carnations, as they are associated with funerals.
. Try to avoid wrapping a gift in green, black or blue as these are used at funerals and in mourning.
. Gold and yellow are considered royal colours, so they make good wrapping paper.
. Only use red wrapping paper if giving a gift to a Chinese Thai.
. Gifts are not opened when received.
. Money is the usual gift for weddings and ordination parties.

Does he golf? Maybe a nice golf shirt or jacket

Maybe a desk clock, maybe one with 3 time zones, I was given one from Tiffany, and it is still one of my favorite gifts, partially since it was given to my by the people who have worked for me many years.
His and Her bathrobes, the thick type you find a great hotels
Maybe a Nice lighter
You can never go wrong with a nice watch as mentioned, most guys love watches.

I had this issue a couple of years ago with a couple who I wanted to express gratitude to but who pretty much have it all. I bought them "nice" matching dog bowls for their 2 dogs. They loved it. And they weren't just saying they loved it either. The other day I visited them again and I saw their dogs using them.

So if he has pets, just about any pet gift my do the trick.

Consider getting him an antique watch, ie something from the 50s or 40s. There are some wonderful stores on Melrose or Third that sell them, along with great original cases. That is something he probably doesn't have.
