The times they are a-changing. Since a court ruling in 2007 SRS has been available under the Brazilian health system, which is terrific, especially when you remember that not so very long ago it was illegal to carry it out at all, which is why Roberta Close came to Europe for hers.

Sabrina is not the first Brazilian girl in recent times to go for surgery--Fernanda Rubio, Gioia/Megan, Ligeia, Karol Bonkar and Shenia Coelho are familiar names that come to mind immediately, but I'm sure there are many, many more.

It's very interesting, and the received wisdom that you mention will have to be reviewed. It looks as if many girls in the past were just accepting that SRS was something they could not then have and were dealing with it.
