Dogs, cats and other household pets seem to be forgotten in times like this, they often the last in line to be rescued, if rescued at all.
Thousands of animals have been either separated, abandoned or stranded by their owners. Some due to neglect, some got separated from their owners during the storm, others because rescuers refuse to allow animals on the rescue choppers while trying to save people.
What we are left with are heartbreaking images of dogs in the streets starving of hunger and thirst baking in the hot sun with no one to help.
Those that somehow manage to survive long enough for rescuers to finally start getting animals out of there will end up in shelters in the Gulf Coast region.
The images on tv of stranded, starving, dying dogs in New Orleans is enough to break anyones heart.
These animals can be trained to save lives, lead the blind, warn their owners of a seizure before it happens.
Dogs will do anything for their masters if trained properly and given love, they truly are mans best friend.
People knew about the oncoming hurricane, some chose not to leave, other couldn't, but they knew. The animals didn't know, they have to rely on their masters in times like this for protection and a lot of them were abandoned, which isn't right.
I made a donation yesterday to the petfinder.com Foundation Hurricane Fund which will go to shelters and animal placement groups affected by Hurricane Katrina.

right ! all you pet owners/animal lovers...this organization also good...http://www.noahswish.org/...hope the link works, first time I've posted one, but the address is correct...and while we're on the subject...if you want a pet, go to your local shelter, you'll save a dog or cat...don't support pet stores/puppy mills, etc. You're either part of the problem, or part of the solution...
