My modest CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ @ 2.1GHz (stock) but I overclocked it to 2.62Ghz. Using stock fan, btw. I could take it higher, but I'd lose stability. Plus, I need a better motherboard. This Biostar board uses weird terminology as if it's culture shocked from the rest of the PC enthusiast community. :?

My GeForce 8800GT is overclocked to 650/1650/1000 or 700/1750/1100 (clock/memory/shader) depending on the game I play.

I overclocked a lot back in the day. Had a homemade water cooling unit connected to the basement toilet. If I ever needed fresh water I would just give it a little flush.

Now I don't overclock my home machines anymore, but I do quite a bit of embedded overclocking. Try to push some of the cheaper processors into the next level.

Overclocking is the process of forcing a computer component to run at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was designated by the manufacturer, usually practiced by personal computer enthusiasts seeking an increase in the performance of their computers. Some of them purchase low-end computer components which they then overclock to higher speeds, or overclock high-end components to attain levels of performance beyond the default factory settings. Others overclock outdated components to keep pace with new system requirements, rather than purchasing new hardware products as expected by the computer industry.[1]

Overclocking is a term used to set your PC clock ahead by months and years to avoid paying Hbo/Norton renewal fees. And believe me, they have figured this out...

Nah, we don't bother overclocking, we just got a quad core something or other, with 4 gigs of RAM and two 500GB drives. I don't exactly know as Jessica builds our systems but it's fast!

Her old one is an AMD something with a fan that sounds like a turbine. It moves like 2 cubic feet of air a second. Funny thing, when she built it two years ago our winter electric bill dropped by $10 a month because the cooler pumped so much heat into the house that we hardly needed to run the furnace.

LOL,
TS Jamie :-)

I have my Core2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz
running at 3.6Ghz on stock cooling.

Managed to get a Q6600 slac0 stepping, and got it from 2.4Ghz up to 3.2Ghz on stock air. The RAM is OC'd up to 1333Mhz, and my GPU is an 8800GTS on the G92 chip which has better overclocking so I've got that about 10% faster than stock. I'm a bit of a nerd so overclocking is something I'll always do.

Just need to find a way to OC the new mac i bought
