I don't see why one mental health issue is such a big deal to you guys and another is what gets your motor running. Who cares about the cut marks, any tranny is obviously going to have issues ie born as the wrong sex.

Cutting can be anything from fashionable to suicide but it's usually done on the bottom of the wrist.

I am going to stand up in defense of SI. It's not a good thing, it's not a bad thing, it just is a coping mechanism for a lot of people.

Maybe she's just an attention whore with it, I don't know. LiveJournal is full of those sorts of people and with the "pro-ana" folks who don't even understand what it's like to deal with an ED. Assuming everything is in all honesty here.

Some people drink when they get upset. Some people SI. SI is no more a suicide attempt than drinking is an attempt to die from alcohol poisoning (though, of course, with both, there are slim chances of serious consequences). Most people who SI hide their marks very well because people are assholes.

I remember one time my mom caught sight of a blister and grabbed my arm and pulled my sleeve up and demanded to know about my marks. From then on, I SI'ed on my thighs because they're much easier to hide.

I have no doubt a lot of tgirls SI or have other self-destructive behaviors (e.g. promiscuity, drug use). As much as it's usually all fun-and-games on this site and as much as my life is going pretty okay right now, being trans is pretty much hell.

I used to SI a lot in high school because I used to have a lot of problems with my mind racing, filled with negative thoughts. Burning cleared my mind and allowed me to not go into a panic attack. It's sort of like in movies when someone is babbling on and freaking out and then the person they're talking to slaps them and they get their head on straight and can think. Some of it for me was self-loathing but everybody is different and does it for different reasons. We all have our own stories.

I have only SI'ed a handful of times since I started hormones in 2004. This is good for me, yes, but I won't criticize anyone for doing it themselves. My main concern is to defend them from people who don't understand and mock them or copy them in an "I'm so emo, look at me" way. I don't know how often that happens, but this thread suggests it does.
