Synopsis: 20 year old Sophie (Seyfried) is preparing to marry her boyfriend Sky (Cooper) at her mother's hotel on an island in Greece. She seemingly has it all -- a carefree life, a loving fiance, and happy friends -- but one thing has been missing all her life: a father.

Her only wish now is to be given away by her dad at her wedding. By reading her mother's diary she discovers that she has three possible fathers. Sophie then secretly invites all three men to the wedding in a desperate bid to discover which of them is her father before the wedding bells start to chime!

But not all goes according to plan: old loves are re-kindled, new loves are formed, and Sophie risks everything to discover the true identity of her father.

Featuring the songs of ABBA, and based on the world's number one musical comedy which has people dancing in the aisles every night, this movie is sure to be the hit of Summer 2008!

So I went to see the Dark Knight on Weds but we got the times wrong ... so with the girlfriend, went to see "Mama Mia".

The first song came on and I was cringing and preparing to give it 15 mins before I walked out ... but 5 mins later I was loving it.
Meryl Streep is fucking hot in it - fueling my MILF fantasy. All the male performers are excellent especially Brosnan and Julie Walters is hilarious.

It's not a chick flick, it's a feel good flick. It's funny, intentionally gaudy, self-referential and quite excellent.

I'm the one who give it 4-stars.

Maybe if I saw it, I would like it; but I've never seen a musical that I could sit through.

Most of the time, I'm thinking "stop with the singing and dancing, and move the fuck forward with the storyline".

Watching musicals are a form of torture, its like going to the dentist.

Very true.

But Spinal Tap was about a band, the only music they played was on stage, they weren't singing for conversation.

Tommy? Maybe, The Who seem very pretentious and they were neither original nor very good.

The Wall. Seemed a lttile too much like A Clockwork Orange. Good though, thats the best argument.

But comparing Momma Mia to the Wall is a little bit of a stretch.

Yeah comparing might have been a stretch but your above quote ... WTF? The Who pretentious, non-original or not very good. Are you having a laff?

In terms of British music, their predecessors (Beatles), contemporaries (Stones), and successor (Led Zeppelin) were all better.

A major reason why The Who remains in the upper echolon is no imprtant bandmate died.

Watching a 60 year old man singing "Teenage Wasteland" is somewhat disturbing when the guitarist (admittedly) visited underage porn sites.

But back the the main subject, I imagine watching Merrill Streep (or anyone) sing and dance in overalls is a miniature version of hell.

Ok you are having a laugh.
No important band mate died? Er, Keith Moon, mate - probably the best drummer ever (Jon Bonham being the other).
The Who were nothing like the Beatles (pop) - in fact, on Helter Skelter the Beatles who trying to out Who, The Who. The Rolling Stones were a blues band which became the great rock and roll band in the world, The Who started with some blues tunes but quickly developed them into their own style. Led Zepplin and The Who are two completely different kettle of fish.

If you don't get The Who, then you just don't get it. Their songs are often more complex and Pete's writing usually better than Mick and Keith's and certainly more so then a lot of the Beatles (and these three are actually my 3 fave bands). There is no need to compare these three bands, they were doing different things (as were The Kinks).
There is no such song called "Teenage Wasteland" - I assume you mean "Baba O'Riley", Roger was the vocals on that (and almost all The Who songs) and your point about them singing it at 60 is worthless, it was written when Pete was 26.

Frankly, in light of all your glaring errors - your speaking out of your arse, son!

All good points (even while wading through British terminology like "kettle of fish", "arse", etc). Haha.

I guess I just don't get it... like musicals.

For me, The Who is (was) too loud, too vacuous. The very definition of overrated.

The two best musicals of all time by far are The Blues Brothers and South Park. :)

I thought this movie was gonna suck badly. But it was actually quite entertaining after the 3 potential fathers showed up.

Plus the black dude goin after the older chick was hilarious. There was somethin about her that was hot, I just can't figure it out though.

Agreed. The only band on this list who had an unimportant band member die would be the Rolling Stones (not to mention that Keith Richards is currently half dead). Keith Moon is one of the best drummers of all time. He and Bonham falling distance second and third to Neil Peart of Rush. Plus the Beatles were long broken up when Lennon was gunned down.

To say the rock opera Tommy was unoriginal and pretentious has no substance whatsoever. Pete Townsend was and is an absolute genius and proved as such during this masterpiece. Yes, the acting was over the top in some instances but it was supposed to be but the music? Incredible.

A problem I did have with the movie was the girl who was looking for her father. Her forehead and eyes remind me of a bug.

Hang on a mo.
This movie is about some slapper who fucked 3 guys all about the same time and so doesn't know who the dad is.
Didn't she know about contaception if she was going to be such a fuckpig?
It doesn't hold up a very good example for all the tennage chicks that will go and see it.

Plus ABBA are fucking shit.

I hate this kind of fucking bollocks.

Brian Jones died (probably murdered) very shortly after leaving the Stones. He was fairly important to the Rolling Stones, he founded them.
