lol, a few of my friends say "you know" every other sentence. That's beyond annoying, its a contagious disease! Seriously, I spend time near them and it takes me a few days to shake it off and will start saying it by accident.

Really gets me in trouble when I visit my grandmother, she was one of those old school English teachers from like the 60s and would smash her students with rulers for saying stuff like that.

When I was little every time I saw her I got a lecture because she'd get so annoyed when I say "yea" instead of "yes." She'd be like "what are you, a crout, ya ya ya" mocking me, and then I'd just try not to laugh because she's as german as it gets and was the first in her family to speak English. I'd just bite my tongue though, one time I almost said "Mein liebe Gott what would Junger say to that?" [lol most people here probably won't get the reference] I don't think its that she hates herself, it's probably just left over WW2 Anti-German sentiment on her part.

I had it easy though, my cousin used to say "like" between words so my grandmother would sit there and silently count how many times she said it and then go "you realize you just said 'like' 80 times in one conversation? Maybe I should charge you for every time you say it...." and start the lecture with that opening.
