As for the Adidas/ Reebok deal, I'm pretty happy, because I've never been a Nike fan.

Don't get me wrong, they make excellent shoes. But their corporate responsibility (or rather irresponsibility) record, though it has improved somewhat, is still pretty crap, as I gather from all the independent reports I read.

Adidas have a decent track record (although their use of kangaroo leather for top quality soccer boots remains very controversial), and Reebok (a brand founded in Bolton, northwest England) have pretty spotless ethical record and also have given money to charities as well as helping to promote sports in the UK (they sponsor the Bolton Wanderers soccer team as well).

I also get the feeling that Nike are wielding too much power in the world of sports. Enough power, it was said, to force the Brazilian soccer team to field a half-fit and obviously ill Ronaldo in the 1998 World Cup Final (it was later revealed that Ronaldo has some sort of seizure before the game). Brazil lost the Final to France. As a follower of "the beautiful game" I think they are bad for the sport.

Have a look also here, dude:
