That's an interesting question, Madea. This is my take on that situation. While I personally consider drag queens to be men and tgirls to be women, I think that men who sleep with drag queens are on the DL. Men who like to sleep with tgirls and then go home to their wives fall into the same category as men who cheat on their wives with GG's. JMO...

I think this whole "down low" is a label looking for a niche. I think most of these black men are just like the closet gay whites of the 50's and 60's: gay men who could not for societal reasons be openly so, so they hid their gayness behind a marriage or apparently heterosexual relationship. Because the black community with it's more traditional (read strict) sexual and social values has been less tolerant to homosexuality, the black gay male--whether raised in church on sunday, or a street playa--knows that it is less exceptable for him to be gay in the black community. He is forced to keep it on the "d/l" as it were.

For a long time the white male gay society was closed to the black gay male as well. Thankfully some black drag divas barged their way into those clubs and made them their own.

Now, the fact of the matter is that having an afinity for T-girls I think is something totally different. I think most tgirl lovers are so-called "straight" men.

These labels really don't mean much though... you love who you love.

What a "straight" person and a "gay" person means by "drag queen" usually means the same. But when a girl calls someone a DQ, they usually mean they look like a brick: a man in a dress.

I did not respond to your query since the DL situation does not apply to me. I'm in a LTR with a t gurl. Most if not all my friends, co workers/employers, family know my tee or better yet they have meet my significant other.I leave it up to them to fill the the blanks if needed.

I hope I don't stomp any toes here, but isn't that the same thing as one black brotha calling another "nigga" when if a white guy were to do the same--even if the black man were his best friend and they'd known one another for years--would be an unacceptable racial slur? IOW, one tranny may call another "drag queen" but fully resent it if someone who is not a tranny were to do so.

30 years and more ago, I think it was different; transsexual was not a common term and variants like tgirl, shemale, etc. were unheard of; moreover, surgical feminization was likewise far less common, so being "in drag" could refer to a guy who lived 24/7 as a woman and who was truly transgendered. But the term is overused and has been supplanted.

As for how I would (and do) refer to a TS friend, I simply refer to her as a woman, period. No need for further explanations in most cases. If there is, then I'll say that she's transgendered. The discussion either turns to other topics, or to a discussion of what it means to be transgendered.

A transexual is one who believe they are of the opposite sex and were born into the wrong body. It has nothing to do with you dressing up or if you have tits or that shit. So I believ there are many men who are TS who just haven't had the oppurtunity to switch for various reasons be it finacial, family or work.

Now about the DL question ummmmm That is a loaded question....By DL you are reffering to and man who is in a secert gay or bi relationship. Since alot of us don't look at you ladies as guys we are going to say "NO" but the truth is "YES" we are because, some of us are not bringing you home or to work or infront of our straight friends unless you can pass for a female.
