I recently got one of these devices, which looks great but I'm mostly stuck with music and a couple of videos from itunes.

Has anyone tried out all the other features I've heard about but can't actually find - maps, emails, etc??

What other 3rd party apps would you recommend?

I have one, and love it. In addtion to music and videos, its a great little web browser and a great way to carry and show off pictures too. If you want to do additional applications now, you have to "jailbreak" it which gives you access to the operating and file system but which also can eff it up for you too.

I'm wating until June, when Apple officially opens it up to outside applications. At that point, it will be a lot more like a small laptop than an Ipod and will be even cooler.

VoIP phone calls from your iPod touch or iPhone using a freeware application called SIP-VoIP.

Seems quite involved and you're device will need to be"jailbroken", still, quite creative!

This is what I am waiting for:

http://lifehacker.com/363655/use-your-iphone-as-a-multi+touch-mouse-with-touchpad-pro

It lets you use the Ipod touch as a wireless touchpad/ keyboard. Cool for working with images or a media center PC from the couch.

I have an iPhone and I live by it, would never sell it, never switch to another phone, and if I lost it would buy another one within the hour.

You need to jailbreak your touch, because out of the box, its just a cool mp3 player. I jailbroke a few touches, but I know there is a simple point and click solution out right now, I just have to find it.

I already have the touchpad program, email, maps, caller ID spoofig software, a ton of games, nintendo, custom themes, everything.

And yes, you can make phone calls on the touch with VoIP. I'll try and find the link later on and post it to an easy way to jailbreak.

Dina, its a way to break into the operating system and do things Apple didn't want you to do.

I have been tempted to jailbreak mine, but the official Apple update is just a few months away and I'm worried it might brick my Touch if it were jailbroke

Thanks for the suggestions.

I used the jailbreak approach - which you can easily find on the web - and have now downloaded the entire wikipedia (less photos of course!) onto my ipod touch. It's great having all that info at your fingertips.

If you want to download wikipedia then follow this video instruction..

I gave into temptation and jailbreaked (jailbroke?) my Ipod touch last week. Was super easy to do, and there is an amazing amount of software for it through Installer. I didn't find the "killer app" which makes the Touch more of a tool than a toy, but I sure found a lot to make it a more fun toy.

Anyone else have any apps for the Iphone/Ipod Touch they can recommend?
