For those who really know me (the real me) know that I am a person that takes care of myself mind, body and soul. I work out often at the gym sometimes with personal trainers (the hotter the better LOL) I am an avid fan of Bikram Yoga which i go twice a week and always looking for a good way to stay in shape and feel better about myself! I recently started taking Krav Maga classes and I HIGHLY suggest it.

Krav Maga is the official self defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces, and has been taught to hundreds of law enforcement agencies and thousands of civilians in the United States.

Krav Maga is a simple, effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios.

At first i was hesitant about taking a class where there is a possiblity to be hit in the the face, breast etc, and after taking a couple of kickboxing classes I changed routes and began taking Krav Maga. The thing I LOVE
about Krav Maga is it teaches you PRACTICAL means of self defense without all the Rituals and Chants of other Mixed Martial Arts. Being the girl that I am that loves to travel (sometimes alone) and in the field of work that im in I feel a need to have that extra advantage and to be able to protect yourself from a opponent twice your size AT THE BLINK OF AN EYE. After 3 classes i have already learned how to punch with as much force as possible (which i didnt know i had that much) 2 types of kicks to really take down your opponent and how to escape a headlock and a front choke in JUST 3 CLASSES!!!

This Saturday im debating on taking the Knife Seminar which one of the trainers from Israel is coming to Temecula for a 4 hour seminar on how to protect yourself and turn the tables when someone pulls a knife on you! The reason why I am suddenly into this thing is because of the recent horror stories Ive heard from my girlfriends of clients coming to see them and robbing them, beating them and raping them and I DONT NOT WANT THAT TO EVER BE ME!!!! Krav Maga also teaches you how to react when a gun is pulled on you and I THINK EVERYONE can benefit from the general knowledge of how to protect yourself because SOMETIMES you NEVER know what to expect these days and ITS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!!

Well I will wrap it up but i just cant express how much better i feel now knowing that I can protect myself from any opponent, not matter the size and I HIGHLY SUGGEST than EVERYONE take a little time out of there day to learn something that will benefit you in your time of need!!!!

I will post the link for the website to find the locations nearest you, which i am uspet that there aren't any in NY City as i think after living there for 6 yrs, is ONE PLACE that i really think you would need to have these classes with the history of violence on the street and the people that dont even look twice or try to help a person in an akward situation (as i have been in before) Feel Free to check out the site, there are videos on youtube as well and i will be happy to answer any questions that any of you have to the best of my knowledge!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences.Glad you take some martial arts lessons to protect yourself.Every single lesson helps but when you wanna be really good in defending yourself you should take lessons on a regularly basis.Just my :2cent Heres a link to the martial arts thread in case you are interested.

I started myself to learn Aikido,a japanese martial art,a few months ago.I can only say good things about it.Only the first lesson
teached me a lot.Aikido teaches you how to handle much stronger oponents, weapons attacks and how to handle a multiple person attack.
Heres a link to a documetary about a 7th dan Aikidoka.

don't mean any disrespect .... But have the aikido and Krav Maga practicioners seen any of the early UFC cards (1-9) not much of an advertisment for either martial art once again no disrespect ment and probably against a basic street thug it would work wich is what you are probably looking for.

Hel Elo thanks for the welcome! Yes i have been taking lessons on a regular basis, the center is 20 mins from my home and I have been taking lessons 2 times per week as my hectic schedule allows.

Kaientai, i have seen UFC matches before and i do not support that kind of entertainment! I took on Krav Maga as a self defense lesson, something that will protect me and make me feel confident in case I am put in a situation where those SKILLS need to be exercised, and there is no other choice. :)

I'm a purple belt in Gracie Ju Jitsu. Krav Maga has really good defenses against guns and knives. I study those techniques myself. Hand to hand however, Gracie Ju Jitsu beats Krav Maga hands down.

Cool deal I have been debating Krav Maga for sometime now... been in Judo for a lifetime it seems and i love it although I wish to augment it. From all the research i have done I figure Krav Maga would be the best of all of them

I liked the episode of Krav Maga that The Human Weapon did.

I haven't been able to get into Fight Quest too much. Seems to me to be a poorly staged knockoff
But that is me

Krav Maga is, simply put, the same conglomerate of martial arts, boxing etc. that every other military in the world uses. There is nothing different to this discipline than any other self-defence course taught by any Western military, except for the name. We all read and use the same manuals. There is no magic aura just because the Israelis use it…

On the whole I will agree with you but outside of the Marine's MCMAP program the US military H2H isn't at all as evolved as the Israelies system. Hell the Army's is Just a watered down Bj system.

Yeah back in the day they were all pretty much the same but today it seems the Spetnaz and the Israelies have a great system as does the Marines.

Well we could wrestle with this subject all night and day and never agree, but you have to remember that the Australian forces are far smaller than the US. This allows for greater individual training as opposed to a broad brush approach. This is why our specialist skills are so valued by our allies in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sure we don't have the same fire-power, but we punch above our weight when put to task.

I say that without taking anything away from our coalition partners skills, as we all have to do our bit. Unfortunately we are at a disadvantage in that we are thinly spread across our own region of influence, and trying to maintain an international presence too... :?

True very well spoken

That is the whole crux of the problem of a handful of nations being the world's policemen. The U.S. also feels the strain but some of us are too thick headed to admit it.

No easy answers though

When I was in the US Army I really enjoyed the times we trained with other nations military, they had some good insights and tactics. I remember the Honduran army while being kinda rough were some of the hardest workers i had ever came across. No task was impossible with them.

i felt the same way initially, but after watching a few episodes of fight quest i think it's the better show. the trainers/fighters don't take it as easy on the hosts of fight quest as they do human weapon. plus, i find the big doofus on human weapon annoying.

Those Israeli special forces guys are very intimidating.
I remember seeing a picture of the ex prime minister Netanyahoo(I know I fucked that up) on the beach with his family and he was surrounded by these guys with uzis.
They all look like MMA type guys.

Hey whats up Krav Maga is a great martial art to study for self defense...i saw your video on the other post and it looks great...personally i hat fighting with a closed fist the palm technique to me delivers a lot more power nut like you said different strokes for different folks...i took 3 years of tae kwan do and i think if they had a Krav Maga studio out where i live i would try it just to see whats its like....GOOD LUCK in all your trainning and i would recomend the knife course...i did a couple while i was in tkd and they were educational...

Utter bullshit, spinning backick as a defense against weapon disarming! seriously? living in fantasyland if you think this is how violence actually works. Loved the first clip where the guy holds the side of the gun to the guy's head! what was the threat here - "give me you money ori will fire a shot into the concrete ceiling and slightly impair your hearing"?!?!
