Isn't it considered improper, when writing prose, to use arabic numerals in place of cardinal numbers? That is to say, I believe you should spell out the numbers rather than use numerals.

Isn't it considered improper, when writing prose, to use arabic numerals in place of cardinal numbers? That is to say, I believe you should spell out the numbers rather than use numerals.
While style books may vary on the finer points, generally speaking this is true of small numbers such as the numbers one through ten, and of two-word number such as 24. Larger numbers are legitimately represented in prose by cardinal numerals, and if there is a mix of smaller and larger numbers, it's better to be consistent. Traditionally, while one would write twenty or twelve, one would write 24 or 48, and certainly 38,392.

http://www.dailywritingtips.com/10-rules-for-writing-numbers-and-numerals/

Note: one general rule which I violated in my post is that numbers beginning a sentence should be spelled out. But in a list like this, for clarity and not as formal writing, numerals work fine.

No one wants to discuss the fact that "green" twisty-style bulbs each contain enough mercury to poison 6,000 gallons of water beyond human safety limits, and shed light which is much worse for our eyes than incandescent bulbs.
