View Full Version : HA: animosity outweighs the curiosity

I'm not part of the HA inner circle and am still a relative newcomer. I used to visit this site a lot. Lately, there is so much animosity and rancor it's a big turn off. No need to mention names, the board speaks for itself. And not all the culprits are men. Some of these TS are as aggresive and mean as the guys. This leaves me less inclined to be more involved. New years resolution: I'm going to check in periodically but not daily.

I feel I can contribute something unique. I'm a bit older than many girls, but just as serious and committed. I want to be a hot sexy woman too. I'm having rhinoplasty this month and fully intend to make myself as beautiful as possible. I'm still developing. I'm not a porn star, or a celebrity. But I'm an artist and writer and in my own way feel I can offer something fresh. However if everytime I post, I must worry about pissing this person off, or offending that person, it makes me want to participate less.

I hope this nonsense goes away in 2008. Its counter-productive. My two cents but hopefully some of you will agree. Happy new year.

Sometimes I think it's a test of one's mettle on this forum when someone you absolutely don't know just tries to rip or tear into you. I say fuck 'em. They don't live my life and don't know what I'm going through. Not everyone can like everyone else and this forum is proof of it. I do know that because this is a very large forum, there's going to be a larger number of opinions. You can refresh the main general discussion page after a few minutes and a whole set of threads have been updated already unlike other forums where the same threads are left uncommented for days, even weeks. That makes this forum the most exciting and entertaining thing around, in my opinion.

I'm not a working girl, either (although I once had a porn site of my own), but like you I believe I have things to contribute. I try not to start any fires and just ignore silly people. In a sense, I'm an artist, too, in my music (some of my music was played on MTV shows like The Osbournes) and photography (I learned from the fabulous Gabe Martinez).

I really don't think you need a nose job. So many girls take plastic surgery overboard and end up looking quite cartoonish. Revel in what god and your parents blessed you with :)

i'm happy to see you're not giving up on us altogether melissa. do make sure you check in once in a while. the tenor of the board changes from season to season. and if i'm ever the one who's out of line, it's just a 'cause there's a loose wire or somethin...just rap me up along the side of the head, that usually fixes it.

Kudos to all the girls who put up with, ignore, or counterattack insensitive posters, and kudos to you, Melissa, for staying the course. HA is unlike the other boards, as Kalina says, because of the tremendous traffic and variety* of topics. So ignore what doesn't work for you and engage what does.

The other forums each have their own raison d'ete, and I'm very involved with several of them, but it's true that, combined, they still don't match 1/10th of the volume here. And Trish is totally right, HA goes through cycles (seasonal, or hormonal? lol), so ride out the rough waters and things get better for awhile. I've been here for about four years, so I've seen it all, as they say.

* Or is that just number? Most topics do fall neatly into a handful of buckets...except Johnny Walker's, lol.

Sadly the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The negative and drama filled threads and

It's akin to the people who stop at the scene of a
gruesome accident.

Here's my 2cents. Drama attracts numbers regardless of whether we agree or not. More people = More sales. The TS that get all the negativity aimed at them are hardly innocent, are they?

I agree that sometimes this place is rife with drama but if there was no drama, there wouldn't be several threads discussing it, therefore this place would quickly become a faster tgirltalk.com only with less people that actually buy the porn.

This may not be totally apropos to your statement:

I am a member of a number of a few forums that are strictly regulated.

If you fart in your own house, you're likely to get vacationed - j/k.

But they don't allow flaming. They will lock a thread if it becomes
unproductive. And they will ban a person if that person truly gets out
of hand.

Now admittedly it's not a porn based site, and it is only for women, but it
does have a very large membership.

Then there are also other forums that I belong to that aren't transrelated,
and I don't have to wear asbestos panties, and they have very large
memebership.

So why are there these major differences in the levels of civility?

Is it all the pent up sexual energy on here. :?

So why are there these major differences in the levels of civility?

I understand some posters frustrations in threads being hi-jacked Peggy, but the direct flame threads shouldn't be a problem. This site's priority is to sell porn and as you well know, as sad as it is, more drama = more people = more porn sales. It's a sad reality.

I think you'll find that the flames have actually attracted people here other than holy rollers, I am sure of this. I never said it was right, I said they attract more people than they scare away, which in turn sales more porn.

I gave an opinion, accept it if you want Trish, but don't make it personal.

It depends. I don't know HA's marketing plan, but if banner ad sales are tied to pageviews, then the drama is a net gain for the forum. If not, then it's a net cost (serving more bandwidth with no increase in revenue). I doubt that the increased pageviews resulting from the drama and flame fests add a whit to product sales through the site; I strongly suspect that, given the size of the audience, such sales plateau at a certain point and would not gain from additional pageviews.

Has anyone come specifically to join the flames. i can name people who left because of the flames. i can name people who left because of ill treatment. i can name people who aren't coming as often. what draws people here is links to pictures posted in chat rooms. porn pure and simple.

I don't know HA's marketing plan but my opinion is if there are more people attracted here for the drama, then there will be more sales for the site. I understand what you're saying about the pageviews will not affect the sales, but the number of members will. If there is no drama then the site would lose a lot of it's appeal causing more people to leave. That's a certainty IMHO.

not long ago HA adopted a new policy: lurkers couldn't see the pics if they didn't register. the result: a huge surge in membership. do you really want to claim there's a ton of lurkers out there who are still not members, just wanking off to our flames?

Yeah, it happened just after I joined. It wouldn't surprise me if there were people out there wank to flames, they'd wank to anything else.

I've already said my thoughts on this, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Its fine to disagree, worst case, you agree to disagree. Its when the name calling and personal attacks start.

Also this whole "fag" business is ridiculous. Anyone who likes a chic with a dick is a little more than strictly hetero. But that doesn't make them gay. It's better it just be uncategorized. Deep inside, you know if you're gay, bi, straight, whatever. Its just a label, and for me goes in the "who gives a shit" pile.

Stick around. It's best not to focus on all the negative things. There are plenty of decent people around.

Melissa.....As I said before I do like your paintings. Hanging around the NYC scene most of my life makes me a bit spoiled but here in Vegas there is a huge commitment to the Arts District and galleries are opening at a good rate. I really like the two paintings you posted earlier.

I think that you have a lot of potential and witht he right surgical descisions you can always look your best.

I don't agree with some of the sentiment on this thread that no one needs plastic surgery to enhace your appearance. That is not true for most transsexuals. Some transsexuals have the right look naturally- but for many of us that is not an option.

DO what you think will make you the happiest and look the best.

Ok two things,
1) Did you say a nose job? Why your nose looks so cute!
2) Gorgeous, in my 30 odd years on this mud ball we call earth I've seen women hurt each other in ways no man would ever hurt a woman.
I don't know why they do it but they do it.
Maybe it's a form of estrogen poisioning?

Well, it's done. The surgery, anasthesia and hospital fee for my upcoming rhinoplasty is paid for. Now I have to stop smoking and prepare for January 23 surgery. Still ironing out a few logistics like transportation and medication. I have a ride to hospital and back but am looking for a backup just in case. I need to talk my doctor into prescribing more Percoset because I filled out the Rx and have downed most of them, lol.

Hi Melissa,

I understand how this site can sometimes just make your stomach turn. My big problem with the flame wars, is that they are just boring as hell, and I have a dial up connection. So sometimes I have to read through pages of silly bickering to read anything worth while, not to mention the psychological downsides of reading lots of garbage. Taking breaks is good for ones sanity, just remember there are plenty of us here who are thoughtful, caring human beings, and it would be a shame to lose you.

Also, I really hate it when the word fag is used pejoratively. I got the shit kicked out of me as a kid for being a fag, and I'm queer. I suppose I could just stop coming here as well, and leave the site to the straight loudmouths, but occasionally I have worthwhile interactions and connections here.

I checked out your website and I really appreciated some of your writings, it takes a lot of courage to share your life publicly like that. I hope you continue to share your intelligence and sexiness here, and I wish you the very best of luck with the percocets (I mean surgery).

xoxo

Also, I really hate it when the word fag is used pejoratively. I got the shit kicked out of me as a kid for being a fag, and I'm queer. I suppose I could just stop coming here as well, and leave the site to the straight loudmouths, but occasionally I have worthwhile interactions and connections here.

And what's saddest and most absurd of all, Mandy, is that the very people who use that word so freely on this board would be called that same word (and much worse) a million times over on any other mesage board. It makes me wonder if "HA" does not really mean "Hypocrites' Association."

Great post. Fuck all the drama. I mean, dont we all have enuff drama in our personal lives?? Whats the point in coming on here n starting shit? And your right, its not just the guys.theres a certain "girl" on here whos quick to call any man a tranny chaser or a closet case. When i first joined the board she attacked me out of no where really quick and i was ready to lace into her but decided to just ignore and keep it moving, cuz im not here for that. I never get involved in the petty disputes that go on here but i must admit, sometimes they are entertaining. That would be texas tranny trash.

I checked out your website and I really appreciated some of your writings, it takes a lot of courage to share your life publicly like that. I hope you continue to share your intelligence and sexiness here, and I wish you the very best of luck with the percocets (I mean surgery).

xoxo

Texas tranny trash again.

I like Austin, and I have lots of friends who are trans there, and I wasn't singling out Jen, although it does make me sad when she calls people fags. She is by no means the only person who uses homophobic slurs here, so whatever issues you have with her, please keep em to yourself, or at least reserve them for a thread that is not specifically about avoiding flame wars and drama.

I apologize to you for bringing this into your part of the thread. But we know she's the main culprit.

Melissa, all the best, Sweetie, as you undergo your surgery on the 23rd. I am curious about your logistics concern, however. Is your "significant other" unable to commit to that requirement, solidly? I will look forward to seeing your results! I will get to see the resullts, won't I?!

Thanks Vette. My bf doesn't have a car. A friend of mine is driving me there and back.

As for results yes you will see but not until the brusing and swelling goes down.
