I enjoyed the book 'IT'(as far as mindless fiction that you read at the beach goes) but I thought that the movie was mediocre. Likewise for 'The Stand.'
'Pet Cemetary' would be my vote for his best flick, I enjoyed it even more than Kubrick's 'The Shining.' 'Needful Things' was pretty decent also, IMO.

The Shawshank Redemption for the best movie.

His best book, Salem's Lot (like the movie for this also!).

I didn't even think about that flick(Shawshank), and you're right about it. 'Salems Lot' would also be in my top 5 or 6...

The Shining - book & Kubrick movie, even though the movie didn't follow the book, but Jack Nicholson made up for it. I've only read a couple of King's books (Salem's Lot and The Shining), but I had the good fortune to meet him briefly at a party in St. Louis in 1981 (Where my then-girlfriend had the kind nature to flash her breasts at him). Interesting individual, very much like the Jordy Verrill (Sp?) character that he played in the Creepshow movie. Goll-lee! :)

For me, itīs definitely "IT". I remember reading it for school because I had a presentation about Stephen King and the book of course. It has about 1000 pages and he worked on it for 4 years. An amazing book with a lot of sub-stories in it, so that every fan must have been dissapointed by the movie.
"Salemīs Lot" and "Shining" were the other books I really enjoyed. Again, I donīt understand why some parts of the Shining book were missing or changed in the movie by Kubrick. I didnīt expect it from a film maker like him but the movie was better than "IT" anyways.

Liked the film The Shining. And Pet Sematary. Christine, too.
Haven't read many of his books. Just a few....
I actually enjoyed his non-fiction work entitled: On Writing.

Definitely "Gerald's Game"

No supernatural stuff, just pure psychological madness and brilliance.

The Dark Tower series with the exception of "Wizard and Glass". He seemed like he was losing his way in that book.

I've read all his books and enjoyed all of them to some extent, some more than others. If I had to pick one favorite it would be Pet Sematary. It's a terrifying story told well. It has a mythic quality for me.

I've read most of his books, and I think almost all are good reads - just enough beyond reality but not so far that they don't make you think just a little if the story he is telling is possible. And when you distill most of his books down, the basic premise is the battle between Good and Evil....

1) The Stand
2) It
3) The Talisman (outstanding fantasy written with Peter Straub)
4) Salems Lot
5) Cujo

He wrote a terrific book on how to write - can't recall it's name. Not a big fan otherwise. The books are very long. I admire him mainly for being so prolific. I did read The Stand which was pretty compelling.

I was really into Stephen King in high school and college, and was reading everything he wrote, but after a while I just stopped. Too many books. I've read pretty much all of his early stuff, with Misery maybe being the last one I read. I like The Stand a lot, and also The Dead Zone and The Shining. I also really enjoyed his short stories as much, if not more so, than the novels. Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, The Bachman Books were all great, and I think Different Seasons might be my favorite. My favorite King movies would probably be The Shawshank Redemption, The Dead Zone (one of Walken's best roles), and Stand By Me.

Needful Things as it's the first book i read of the King of horror... and also being a compulsive collector of almost anything i feel it really near to me...
but for the story... the best are It, The Dark Tower cycle and the Stand...
the most scarying is otherwise Salem's Lot...
