... The thing I find interesting is that many of the Eros women I've met IRL don't need anykind of airbrushing -- at all! They are absolutely beautiful in person, so it kind of throws me for a loop when I see airbrushing utilized in their respective ads. Maybe there is a reason for it which I as a non-photographer don't understand. :(

alot of times it is used to fix lighting and such issues, some are very overdone and some are not. but the above statement was right, just about anything you see on the net/print/tv is edited now to look better, adjust lighting and so on, ever wonder how that playmate of the year didn't look the same on the talk show? not as vibrant or perfect looking? what is good about having a photo touched up is it can remove things or adjust things that you normally would not see in life. some people look damn good in life but snap there photo and it looks nothing like the same person. if you actually look at a photo "unless professional touch up and still then you can see" you can see were editing has been done.

I don't see the problem in airbrushing, though I do give Jade kudos for "truth in advertising." Airbrushing is another form of makeup, and as Laura says, is often needed to correct problems for instance with lighting (unnatural glare on the skin for example). Glamour photography is a special type of photography intended to enhance an illusion (regardless of whether the subject is naturally beautiful or not, the illusion is to make her the most beautiful possible). The very word "glamour" comes from the ancient word for a spell cast to create an illusion or "glamour" that something is other than what it appears to be.

The demands of glamour photography are different to those of other types (journalistic, pornographic, nature), each of which has its qualities. In a porno photoshoot (whether softcore solo or hardcore action), the effect is an overall sensual sequence of a girl or two or more people, often running to dozens or even 100s of shots, and a more natural look is appropriate. But in glamour photography, as used by the girls to advertise on Eros.com, a single shot or maybe 3 or 4 or 5 photos must serve to capture the eye and entice the client. So the girls want to look their best.

Very few women--GG or TG--look perfect without makeup. So what's the big deal? So long as the photos are actually of the girl advertising, and the airbrushing isn't taken to such an extreme that you wouldn't recognize her in real life, then I don't see the problem. Now if girls don't take the trouble to look good when you actually visit them, that's another issue altogether.

Your post is very telling in many ways. It seems you have a chip on your shoulder about all women, GG and TS. Calling all women "the devil" and saying that using make-up is "deception"... I'm not saying you are a mean, bitter guy, but you come across like that when say things of this nature. I think if you ask any woman why they use make-up, they will say it's to enhance their look (not to "fool" anyone) and to make THEMSELVES feel better. The natural look is cool too (often achieved by make-up as well), but don't look at girls that use make-up as trying to fool you in some way.

How can you ever expect any form of happiness if you look at all women as "the enemy"? You are only 19 years old... far too young to be so bitter and skeptical.

magazines, celibrities, etc.

As long as you dont convert yourself into a different person- what is the big deal?

Everyone wants to sell a perfect image and what is so wrong with that.

I have a friend who does airbeushig for A list celibrity clients in Magazines in LA and he told me- often a celibrity will sit there and tell them what to change.

Remember sometimes the camera picks up things we dont's ee with our eyes-
a blemish , ect.

If you don't think that peeople are airbrushed then you should see people lile Pamela Anderson in person and darling, her pics are touched up to death.

I admit that I use airbreshing for my promo pics and publicity stills-
but it is nearly impossible to photoshop 100 pics on a gallery set for a website.

But the stuff that I do to pics is really not changing things- just smoothing it out-
etc, evening out skin tone, whitening the whites of th e eye, elingating my body becausemy torso can sometimes look too short in photos.

I have no problem admitting it. You can see me in real life and see.

AND NATURAL?

If we all women were running around natural, no one would cut or dye their hair, wear make up, shave their body, etc.
There is no such thing as natural beauty in the terms of that every women uses some product to enhance their appearance.

some of you guys should get your own glamour photo done and see how a camera can pick up a flaw that isn't there in day to day life, also if you want to pick photo's apart for touchups, you should see the positions for the photo shoots, they are not the most comfortable nor most natural of positions, there done because the portray sexuality in the photo. you do a pose were your on your side and you move alot for the shoot, then roll over or stand up and take another photo, BIG RED SPOT on the skin that they didn't see when shooting but the shot was great, touch up time! the example of pamela anderson is a great one, another one that i hear so often is cameron diaz "spelling?" or even lucy liu, they are both considered naturaly sexy gg's but if you see them outside of the movies or photo's they have major FLAWS in there skin. as i stated if you look close at any photo on the net you can and will see were touch up was done. but like someone here said if they look "LIKE" the picture then whats the big deal? also lets not forget the makup for a photo shoot is ALOT different than the makeup you will meet the girl in. there was a story i read that was all but to funny, "porn in hdtv" the guy strongly stated that "the illusion of porn was totally ruined" not only could he see all the faults inthe girls but the makeup on them was horrid compared to regular low res tv. lol every time i see a playboy shoot i shake my head and put it down as i know there is not one girl in this world THAT perfect.

also i wanted to add to the topic of the airbrushing or photoshopping, if the need wasn't there to have guys turn and take notice you wouldn't have the need for plastic surgery in the world, no breast enhancements no nothing lol and the porn world / strippers / tgirls keep those guys in business and rich. i am a huge advocate on only doing what you yourself find attractive but lets face facts, we all have our own perception of what sexy is because of society.

If you see an ad that looks extremely airbrushed, then don't expect the best and be heartbroken. No One In the World will look exactly like their 400 dollar photoshoot in real life.

If some of ya'll are that worried about if the chick looks like that in real life...search for more pics of her on the net other than the usual 2 airbrushed Eros pics. No entertainer is gonna look like those pics.

I do understand some chicks look like monsters compared to their pics, but when you see a pic online don't observe it with your dick, use your eyes too.

Another point is that some girls (and guys for that matter) are naturally photogenic while others are not, yet when you see those girls in real life you may be stunned by their beauty. The camera loves soft, rounded curves and accentuates angles to the detriment of the model; camera angles and reflected light (often from several sources) may be used to lessen the effect, but airbrushing also helps. For that matter, the choice of lens and lighting effectively alter a person's appearance as well, as every lens has some degree of distortion and the way the light and shadows fall can greatly affect the result.

Like Allanah says, you can't retouch 100+ pics in a photo gallery shoot (or you'll spend way more on the photos than you should), but the purpose of a large photo gallery is quite different to that of a handful of glamour photos.

What I don't like is amateur retouching in Photoshop, where the retouching is too blatant. It should be subtle, not obvious.

Don't just use your eyes, use your brain. It's one thing for a woman (or anyone for that matter) to want to present themselves in what they feel is their best light(no pun intended), so it's more than acceptable, or even excused, if a woman's Eros picture has been doctored a bit to remove a blemish, lessen an acne scar, slightly soften a hard edge, etc. Where I might have a big problem is when (I've never experienced this personally) a woman has used Photoshop to narrow her waist line, or thin out her legs, et all. It's presenting a totally different person than expected. Now that's deceptive advertising !


Like I mentioned upstream, the women I've met and seen in person were just as beautiful, if not more, in person, than their Eros ad could ever convey. If soft lenses and/or airbrushing was utilized in any of their respective shots, it didn't stray very far from the original. :)

something missing from those pics , some of those photos are not shot anytime around the same time. some of those pics are of shots form a year or even more in the past or after the photo shoots. people can change drastically over the time of a year or so . tans, weight, time of month , sleep and all that can drastically change your look one way or the other. me for example when i weigh more my face is softer and younger looking, the more weight i loose the harder my face becomes. some of those before / after photos not even photo shop could touch up lol. and spears has her times of looking good and looking bad.

I don't mind airbrushing if you don't really notice the airbrushing. What is bad is when you don't see any skin tone at all and it looks all washed out. Even worse is when they alter their body shape so much it looks cartoonish.

I remember seeing ts escorts ads in magazines about 10 years ago and some were so bad, they just took a picture of their face and cut it out and put in onto a gg body. It was so badly done it was extremely obvious.

Interesting, NYCe. A couple of notes:

1) Glenn Feron is really about retouching, not just airbrushing (which is but one tool for retouching); a lot of these photos are retouched to correct color balance, chiaroscuro (the balance of light and shadow, especially to correct or accentuate shadow play and highlights in different areas), positioning (consider one photo where he shifts the girl on the left to the right significantly), etc. No matter how good your camera, lighting, composition, etc. are when taking photographs, often those same photos can be improved by these techniques. As a matter of fact, the type of film (or digital settings) in and of themselves alter the reality. Likewise the use of lens filters, or strong reflected light (which is often unnaturally shifted to the red/gold to accentuate skin tone, which would otherwise--in a "correctly" exposed photo--be (for a white model) too pale.

2) Notice that with some beauties (notably Halley Berry and Beyonce), the retouching may make certain improvements (in that first pic of Halle, for instance, he removes the dark circles under her eyes), there's relatively little "correction" of skin blemishes because those models actually look quite stunning even without makeup (though obviously they are improved by the judicious application of makeup and some photo editing). But when you mouseover some other models, you see truly striking retouching taking place, including the removal of all blemishes (which I think goes too far, imho).

you know i typed an entire thing on this just now and deleted it before posting because i know it wasn't worth the effort, it amazes me that in a community that strives for acceptance and be considered just normal people within the realm of life that we are still so negative towards our own community and to others.
