And your baby was born with two sets of genitals (a penis and a vagina)..

Which "sex" would you keep and why?

a. would you keep both as it is?

Or

b. would you go with what the doctor/s suggested (getting rid of the less prominent "sex" characteristic of your infant)?

:?

I would leave the baby as is until he/she is old enough to decide if she is a boy or a girl. From what I hear kids know pretty early in life which way they will go.
Doctors don't know shit and if you just happen to have a really old closed minded doctor, you could be making the biggest mistake ever.

Unless the issue impeded the child from urinating or later developing correctly after reconstructive surgery, I think I'd leave it like it was and let the child grow old enough to decide whether they want to be male, female, or stay the way they are.

If it were an emergency situation and the child HAD to go under the knife, I'd have the doctor take a good hard look at the genitalia inside and out and have them decide whether the child is more male or more female then have their sex changed.

Damn there should be an option c. for i don't know what the hell i would do.I saw some program on msnbc where some parents went by the doctors and rise there boy as a girl, when he got older he commited suicide. That is a tough decision to make either way.

Keep both until we see what he / she develops into.

You have to leave it for the child to decide.

well I would go with what the doctor said, most times only one set is full functional and some times only one set has the ability to give them sexual pleasure. I would go with what ever would be best at the time, if they end up gay, straight, what ever later, it doesn't bother me either way, I'm bi as it is and have had some great experiences with both sex's, so I would just do what I thought was best for them in the long run.

then if they really wanted I would help them change it later, they are my baby after all...

Should have been a poll, Ms. H. :)

My intersexed friend often said that "The doctors always guess wrong" and in my limited experience with knowing IS people, this is spot on. He was born genetically male, but in female form (Vagina, no uterus), and when he hit puberty his muscle mass and overall build (As well as his gender and sexual identities) went to the genetic, not the mechanical side of his makeup. Of course, at the outset, the doctors gleefully proclaimed "It's a girl!". NOT!

My vote would be to leave nature alone to take its course. When the individual is old enough to define themselves (Which can come at a surprisingly young age) only then should anything 'corrective' be considered and even then it should be the choice of the individual.

The problem is you usually only get one really good shot at reconstructing an intersexed or herm's genitals.

Say the dr choses to make it a girl, and it ends up being a boy mentally- no way in hell the kid will ever end up with a "normal" penis and anything done after the first surgery to "correct" it would severely hamper sensitivity and sexual abilities over whatever they had originally. This is why its so rare for even ftm's to have much done down there surgically.

You can't rely on what the doctor says at face value either. Doctors more times than not will CLAIM that the kid needs corrective surgery immediately at birth/infancy for various "reasons" just because they can't handle the situation and have their bigotry enter the equation. There have been sooo many parents who had a dr "correct" the kid without the parents knowing about it (until after the fact) or lying and saying it was needed for various emergency reasons (infection risks etc) when that is not the case.

True hermaphrodites are pretty rare but the various ways genitals can develop incorrectly or ambiguously is not as rare. There have been several people in my family to end up with various things like that down there without having two true, complete reproductive systems.

All you can do is get as many opinions as possible as to rather or not an emergency surgery is really required and if not, wait for the kid to be in the position to know what they are.

I was surprised at people's replies to this one.

Of course, the correct answer to this question is always; "Stop mutilating babies, you dickbags!".

Good job, everyone. You win 100 internets each!

I would have a couple doctor's opinions and base my decision on those. I can understand people saying to let the child decide when they get older, but that can be really hard on a child. I would say to see which sex the doctors say the child can develop as easier, and go with that one. I understand that you may make the wrong choice, but the surgeries are done easier as a baby, because they heal much faster. I know a lot of girls here were born as male, and then realized that they are more female than male, but if the physical and chemical characteristics of the child lean more one way, then why not make them that way? Sure you will choose wrong sometimes, but you will be more than 50%.

Looking for hot top men

I am a bottom, I travel to SF often and looking to meet a hot regular topman that loves to kiss. Looking for a regular hookup.

http://rentmen.com/clients/maleescort-client.sftraveler.html

ABOUT ME:
I'm exercising again after taking about 18 months off due to illness. I used to be in great shape - I taught aerobics classes from 1986-1994, then returned to my first love, cross-country running.
While I was ill, I lost 35 pounds and my muscles turned soft. But having lost all excess weight, I have a golden opportunity to rebuild my body.
I have combined an elliptical trainer with strength-training to rebuild my endurance and to tighten my abdominal, butt and arm muscles again. I also am working with a personal trainer who is just fabulous and done wonders with my body.
My sex drive is returning so occasional hookups would be wonderful.

GUYS I'M LOOKING TO MEET:
I'm interested in hearing from guys who are exercising again after a long illness. Advice on how to rebuild and pace myself would be much appreciated.
As for hookups, I prefer men of color - Blacks, Asians and Latinos - but would consider white men as well. Light S&M but no penetration, please. Ask for details.
