Just got a tentative package from a travel agency. Round trip ticket and a week in a downtown Sao Paulo hotel for 1,350. Is this a good deal or can I do better?

sounds OK, but how much are you bringing for donations?

I'd like to at least have 2 grand to exchang for Brazilian currency, which should net me about 4,000 in brazilian money to spend. Sound about right?

Price is not too bad, depending on what city you fly from. I'd research the hotel, since the "downtown" area is not really that nice ... apart from the section where the t-gatas hang out!

The dollar has weakened so much that the exchange rate is something like 1.75 Real = 1 Dollar. So $2000 = R$3500.

Here's some links to whet your appetite for the SP t-girls.

Don't know if you already went, but you may want to do some research on how to get the best exchange rate if you are going to exchange that much cash (which in my opinion is more than enough for a week and far too much to be carrying around). I am visiting Sao Paolo right now and the exchange rate is 1.75. The best rate that I got was simply swiping my ATM at a local bank that I researched where I got 1.70 which was the best that I saw. In my experience Airport exchange services are the worst ($1.60 in Atlanta and 1.62 in Sao Paolo, hotels offer better rates typically and the ATM thing is hit or miss in terms of the rate and if my ATM card from the US will be accepted.
