They had those big ass Motorola cell phones back then, hell in Miami Vice, Crockett had a phone in the Ferrari and that was 1986. Still a madd funny videos, i remember AOL 3.0 and the Townhalls back in 1995....lol.

Car phones were a bit different from cell phones technologically. Weren't the older car phones just RF transmitters-receivers communicating with repeaters connected to the phone grid?

It wasn't like the cell phones that communicated with large towers IIRC.

They actually had portable suitcase phones going back to the 60s or 70s.
