Hey people. Just turned 30 and I noticed that my hair (in the front) is beginning to thin out a little... Genes Suck! lol
Anyway, I heard that Propecia is the the best treatment to combat thinning hair and actually shows high % success rates. Has anybody tried this or any other method. If so, does it work at all and can you get it without a prescription? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks

i can imagine how ur feeling. when a man loses his hair a man loses his ego! im 21 so hopefully ive a long way to go before i look like billiard ball..but i have noticed receiding hairline starting  if the worst came to the worst id shell out a few g's on a hair transplant lol. if they're good enough for ben affleck and john travolta they're good enough for me! i would say that propecia stuff is a gimmick to be honest but any success stories are welcome

Finasteride/Propecia

Possible health concerns
The UC Berkeley Wellness Letter expressed concern in March 2003 about the unproven long-term safety of Propecia and recommended cutting a standard 1 milligram dose of Propecia into quarters to reduce the cost without reducing its effectiveness. This claim appears to be supported by clinical pharmacological data reviewed by the FDA during Propecia's approval process that suggested that the advantage of taking 1 mg per day over 0.2 mg per day is statisticially small.[8] Some people have unsuccessfully petitioned the FDA to re-examine the approved dosage in light of the statistical evidence and unknown long-term risks.[9] The FDA responded and said that just because the level of DHT found in the scalp was not significantly different does not mean there is a correlation with hair loss. A study would have to show that the benefits of using 0.2 mg and 1 mg were not statistically different. According to the FDA such a study has been performed and a 1 mg dose has a greater benefit whilst remaining equally safe. The same study also concluded that doses of 0.01 mg per day were found to be ineffective in treating hair loss.[9]

In the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT), 25 percent fewer men taking the drug finasteride developed prostate cancer than men not taking the drug. However, men who developed prostate cancer while taking finasteride were more likely to have high-grade cancers, which can spread quickly even if the tumors are small. [10]

I have been taking Propecia since it was available. Over 5-6 years anyway. IT WORKS! I take 2mg per day, twice the normal dose. I have had no bad side effects.

I get it t from my MD. It is expensive. It cost about $150 per month for the dose I am taking. Rogaine for me was not practical. I can't put a liquid on my hair 2X a day every day. Too much trouble.

If you shave and let your hair fall out you will never get it back. If you can afford it, I recommend Propecia. Depending on your Testosterone levels, 1-3 mgs per day to preserve what you have, at least until there is a better treatment. It will save most of what you have except the front of the hairline.

It may be available on the internet at a better price. I don't know. I recommend the licensed Merck product as it is still under patent and not available as a generic.

You can only transplant hair that is remaining.

Hairs follicles that die out as a result of heredity. (sensitivity to DHT) will never come back. Propecia can prevent that loss as long as you take it.

Hair transplants are generally harvested from the back and sides of the head.
These follicles are genetically programmed to last a lifetime, (NOT sensitivie to DHT, Dihydrotestosterone).

My hair started to go when I was 19. Buck up,be a man and accept it.

BTW,if you leave it alone you'll never need Viagra. Trust me on that one. I'm on drugs for other conditions that are supposed to cause impotency. My dick still wakes me up every morning and gets me in trouble all day.
