This is the most terrible shit Iīve ever seen. Tom Pryce hits the 19-year old marshal Van Vuuren in South Africa and dies himself, too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFPFwqO49Go

The next one is Roland Ratzenberger who died the day before Ayrton Sennaīs death during the quali-race in Imola (1994): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y_Uxi5figc

Ayrton Senna: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3__FRuqWKqU

Roger Williamson barbecue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho5-6taeWRQ&mode=related&search=

All this just shows how stupid this "sport" is. But at least, they lived their dreams.....

It isn't a stupid sport at all, and honestly the risks are minor compared to the past.

Ever seen video of board track racing?

It is a very athletic undertaking, you can pull random people off the street and not expect them to handle all those g forces.

Thanks for the links, I've been looking for some of them.

If you don't understand this sport, then don't uninformed comments otherwise it is you that is stupid. There are permament injuries and deaths in other sports and the comparitive in F1 are lower than many.

there hasnt been a single deadly accident in Formula one since 1994. i n the 1950ies, 60ies, 70ies that sport was very dangerous for the drivers - yet all of them knew the risks they were taking.

since John Barnard of McLaren and Gordon Murray of Brabham introduced carbon-fibre chassis in the early 1980ies this has become a relatively save kind of motor sport.

any true follower of motorsports does NOT want to see anybody beeing hurt.

its always the so called "critics" that drool over accidents like the ones on display.

Seanchai: F1 is a very popular sport in Europe. Since youīre living in Europe, you might have noticed that. Most of the races happen in Europe, most of the drivers are Europeans and team bosses also. This kind of sport is from Europe. I have been a couple of times with my father at the Grand Prix of Austria in Styria. This sport is very expensive and ridiculous while we have millions that die of hunger. I do understand this kind of sport very well and was a cart driver myself. Today, I donīt see the point of this kind of sport. You got some idiots that are following each other in a circle.

You could also tell me that Iīm not right before putting me into the "stupid-category". Youīre an adult man, Seanchai and not a 14-years old street fighter. Anyways, thanks for your responses folks.

You could also tell me that Iīm not right before putting me into the "stupid-category".

Call it as I see it! You've went from complaining that the "sport" is dangerous and stupid, to complaining that it's too expensive and is somehow related to starvation? I am European and my other favourite sport is football - which has 100's of players getting multi-million dollar salaries ... or Tiger Woods ... or Michael Jordan. Man, that is a stupid response and point to make.

Also by making this posting and directing people to those videos your doing nothing more that propigating and promoting death scenes to those who have no clue about the sport and are only looking for snuff/faces of death-type content. Why are you even posting this on a transgender board? It just seems stupid.

Finally, many auto-safety advances have came as a by-product from the research done in motor sports. Advances which most of us probably take advantage of daily. You'd be stupid not to realise that.

Yeah ok.

I have done allot of racing myself. And there is no way I have any interest in watching people get killed on U tube. No real racer would even post those links.

So I take it you sold your cart to help feed those people that are dieing of hunger? Yeah right, I have to go now and pick up a drum of VP-C16 so I can run my blown injected deal this weekend.

You have a nice day and make sure you get enough to eat. lol

Iīm not promoting death scenes. My comment about the nonsense of these deaths was a sub-view but I want you to remember this. I loved Ayrton Senna as a kid who is the best driver of the 90ies for me. The motivation for opening this thread came after a friend of mine had a horrible crash last night. I remember all my years being a F1-noob (somehow Iīm still one). Why Iīm posting this here? Well, I think itīs not a bigger crap than that other people post. Where the fuck did you get that "death-promoting" thing? And what about that "F1 related to starvation" blame?

Youīre absolutely right with your last point about the progress of safety.

I did not mean to tell you to "fuck off". I meant to say that I'll be buying some 117 octane race gas and will not be sending any money to feed the hungry (I pay taxes and to much of that money is already spent feeding people all over the world except our own)

And yes, I did read your post to seanchai. I didn't understand it any better then you understood mine.

But now that we are talking about racing and Europe I have a question.
Why do you guys watch rally races (love them btw) from the outside of a loose turn that has no wall or guard rails?? I always wondered about that, seems like the inside of the turn would be a better spot.

The fans in Mexico are even worse. They jump out on the course to try to touch the race trucks when they go off the jumps. And they stand right in the middle of the course and jump out of the way at the last second.
Sometimes they get taken out.

How do you think this guys photo turned out when that tire hit him in the face?

yes he did. I guess he was pretty messed up though.

Ok, now to stir the pot a little bit.

On only his second time at Dakar with his own team he was first in class and 8th overall. Not bad for a small budget team that builds their own cars from scratch right here in So Cal.
Here is a sneak peek at next years Dakar overall winner. lol Some old footage but I love seeing him hit the big double jump out at the Glamis sand dune.

The guy everyone loves to hate, Robby Gordon. :D

So what to you propose, some kind of governmental system to collect all the money out there so it could be distributed to people based on need?

Don't people have the ability to decide how their money, investments etc are spent?

Communism certainly hasn't worked very well for the people in most communist countries....

Outside of the poverty remark I do agree with you that racing in many fields is out of control expense wise but it is a required evil as it is so high tech these days in terms of everything. But that's the cost of an evolving field were everyone is constantly pushing the limits (as far as the technology of the time allows).

Remember the work Jim Hall did? That was in the 60s and 70s and it certainly showed the world how well thought out engineering can effect the field, it also shows that anything that gives a dramatic edge is quickly prohibited as the people without the technology go off in the corner to cry foul.

All changes have to occur fairly slowly and gradually in order for the racing community to except them -unless- its safety equipment. Look at all the stuff we have now that we didn't have 30 years ago... just because the cost is higher doesn't mean thats a bad thing because in the end, the more high tech it has gotten, the safer it has gotten.

Actually I take the safety comment back, as it depends on the series. Nascar has always been slow as fuck to implement new safety procedures & equipment.

At Foyt's first 500 something like 14 of the people who started with him ended up dying racing in that era, and Foyt himself certainly has always had death chasing him around (on or off the track for that matter).

Look: F1 is just something like "kids of rich parents are having fun". Although, not all of the drivers come from upper-class.

People do have the ability to spend their money the way they want but not the right to take money away. Ok your not an idiot - your just nuts.
You want to "remember these guys" but you called their sport stupid.

You don't want to bring in a political discussion yet you equate the money "wasted" on this sport to contributing to starving people as well as whining that they are rich kids (but not all of them).

Car racing of almost any type is definitely a sport! Wrestling a 900 horsepower loud toaster with no respite for hundreds of miles makes it so. Not only must one be in good shape, have stamina, and a clear focused head to race, but there is risk of injury, and even death, as in many dangerous athletic endeavors, and nothing is more dangerous in the sports world than swapping paint with 30 others going at a high rate of speed.

... I get into these debates all the time, as I feel car racers are more athletes than, say, golfers. Golf is not a sport and NOT played by athletes, but that's a different topic. :)

there hasnt been a single deadly accident in Formula one since 1994. i n the 1950ies, 60ies, 70ies that sport was very dangerous for the drivers - yet all of them knew the risks they were taking.

There was a fire marshall killed in Hockenheim before the track redesign, I think it was in 2001. It was a colossal multi car crash with one car flying through the air and rotating on the horizontal and centerline axiis before it landed bottom down on a McLaren and bounced onto the grass. Another car was struck so hard that the tether on the wheel broke and flew into the chest of the unlucky fire marshall. He was the only person with serious injuries, which proved to be fatal.

Meh. They knew the risks involved. Car racing isn't a sport anyway, more of a competition. Drivers aren't athletes either, that's why they're called "drivers". Hell, I'm a driver. My car may not go as fast but I can drive that son of a bitch.

I was the one? I just mentioned that there are millions invested into a car that gets into a crash a couple of minutes after the start of the race. This money could be very useful since weīre not living in a world with solved problems. But I didnīt know that someone would start the ultimate economy chit-chat. I thought itīs logic. Your point of view is welcome for me but I see where youīre getting at. Youīre just defending a life-style (that of the businessmen) because of personal reasons?

You think showing people getting killed in faces of death videos is FUN??? Again, you brought politics up.

You took it by word. You get the answer in the first quote of this post.

[quote]Don't give a shit, then why do you keep making ridiculous statements? Your opinion that F1 is a business is not unwarranted. However, which professional sport isn't?

Every professional sport is business today. The point is: you think itīs totally ok. Why do you think itīs ok? Because you think itīs ok to make use of people that are at the edge of the society because they donīt seem to have other opportunities. I often think Iīm stupid myself for enjoying these things but I also have no other choice to is it and this doesnīt mean that I justify myself.

I'm not attacking, I'm retorting. Answering the stupid comments you've made over the course of this thread and answering your original posting about how "stupid this sport is". That's attacking.

Sorry, but as a true long time fan of F1 ... that's not correct. The last fatalility occured in 2001 at the Canadian Grand Prix a track marshal was killed when Ralf and Villeneuve collided. The story was debris hit the marshal. The truth ... seen in video ... was that a wheel essentially decapitated the marshal. Unfortunately, that was the second death in 2001 as another marshal was killed at Monza at the Italian GP in a crash between HHF and Rubens.

The real answer is - posting the vids are a misguided and tragic way of trying to make a point. Anyone who understands sport understands that accidents happen ... even in golf, tennis, running, etc. If you want to show tragic vids and make such comments ... start in your own backyard.
