Upon arrest, both Allen and Craig attempted to use their positions of power to escape charges (Craig handed over his US Senate business card to the officer and asked, "What do you think about that?).

Post-arrest, Allen, appealing at once to homophobia and racism, mounted a "black (gay) panic" defense. You see he wasn't really interested in giving head, he was just trying to save his neck. Apparently, the cop was "a pretty stocky black guy" and "there were nothing but other black guys around in the park." Fearing he was "about to become a statistic," Allen did what any other, rational, straight (straight!), white man would do if he just so happened to find himself cruising a public restroom full of black men: fork over a Jackson and drop to your knees.

what irks me most about this fiasco is that after his run-in with the law he makes the public statement, "I am not gay," as if that's what he was cited for. He's was charged with lewd and indecent behavior, not for being gay. Craig would like to give the impression that hanging around in bathrooms cruising for cocks to suck is the definition of a gay relationship.

What I admit to knowing is that an accusation of pretentiousness is an ad hominem argument and doesn’t address the issue at hand (which is that Craig’s rhetoric was indeed vituperative). But since you flattered my fiction writing, I’ll let it pass.

Anyway, I basically agree with you that hypocrisy abounds and especially in politics. The title of my thread is even hypocritical (what irony). I do think republicans have an Achilles’ heel when it comes to family values and related issues like gay sex, extramarital affairs, divorce etc. Had Clinton proposed a constitutional amendment to end blowjobs and sex with cigars his affair would’ve been hypocritical. As it was, it was simply tawdry and cheap. He may have been a hypocrite on other issues, but on this issue he was just a philanderer and a liar.

If I was a corporation I would certainly make a "generous donation"
