Sorry, no hot TV action here!
But, if you like trannies and you like your soaps and you're probably a Brit, then Corrie might be interesting when a leading character falls for a "girl" in an episode this week.

Hayley Cropper?? (I'm sure that storyline has already been done...) BTW, did you know that her trademark red anorak was "de-stocked" by a leading fashion chain? Customers were too embarrassed to wear the same coat!

I hope it turns out that Kelly Crabtree (Tupele Dorgu) packs something extra ;-)

Also, in UK on BBC2 tonight at 9pm

presented by 'The Apprentice' contestant Saira Khan

In the first episode, she meets Pakistan's top female TV star, who is not everything that she seems....

In a journey that takes her behind a veil of secrecy, Saira seeks out a transvestite community that traces its ancestors back to the Moghal Empire

Hmmm, it was played strictly for laughs - very thin on the ground - but at least they didn't employ a manly looking GG for the role. In fact Anthony Sean Berry was very passable as the beautiful holiday fling. It was surprising Eileen clocked the unclockable so early on. The denouement was your typical scene from a cheap porno flick (er, not that I would know):

Steve: "I don't meet someone like you every day..."
Shania: "That I can believe."

And of course, in the end Steve was sickened and let the girl walk off in tears clutching her wig. And the admirers here chucked something at the television, wishing they were in his place.

The troubling thing about this storyline was that it used the "gimmick" of a beautiful sexy stranger who turns out to be really (shock horror) a *man after all* to have a laugh at Steve's expense. It's particularly strange after the show went to such pains some years ago to portray Hayley Cropper in a favourable light, and dwelt in detail on the reaction of friends and co-workers when they discovered she was a transsexual.

I hope this girl follows Steve back to the UK as hinted by one commentator on http://www.corrieblog.tv/2007/07/award_winning_d.html if only so we can get something more than the two-dimensional stereotype of T girl as sly, dishonest, creature whose sole aim is to "trap" an "innocent" man...

It seemed like there might be plenty more depth to her character if only the writers would let us see it.
