Shemale sensored from a Wikipedia entry

There is so much rivalry in the community. I was just reading the heated disscusion in regards to the Wikipedia entry for shemale. The post op medical activist crowd will not allow a shemale word to be used because they shun the sex workers and call them a derogitory segment of the TS catagory. They say shemale is a slur. if you type in shemale in wiki you are redirected to transwoman medical page.

hooo-wheee, what a topic....a great one, actually. so damn great, in fact, that as one can see from the linked wiki, there will be no end in the debate over the term.

The gap between the two sides is enormous. But what's really interesting is that like canyon walls carved out by a river, both sides are headed to the same end.

Whether it's a matter of priviledge, race, sexuality, education, or whatever else we humans can figure out to separate ourselves from each other, the trans community is a more condensed version of what happens in society and in the world on a larger scale - the haves vs. the have-nots, black vs. white, the Hatfields vs. The McCoys, beauty vs. brains, breasts vs. legs, Mets vs. Yankees, 2 assistants vs. one promotion, and on and on and on.

Both sides always think they're better than the other side when in actuality what makes them think that is that they're secretly afraid they're not better. So, in fear, they get angry, act superior, and the 'vs.' comes out to play. What's the solution? Like diplomacy, both sides have to give and take, accept each other's side of things, realize that neither side is the be all and end all, understand that they all can learn from each other, and come to an agreement.

That's my view on it.

btw...an aside..."transgenderist"? did anyone else see that one at the beginning of that wiki? enough with fucking terms already!! jeesh!

As far as I know, the word "shemale" has always been considered derogatory, despite it's nearly sole usage by the porn industry. But, I could be wrong.

Anyway, the reason behind the redirect is most likely to consolidate and conserve space. Wikipedia is huge enough as it is; they don't need the same page for each term used to describe a t-girl. It would make sense to redirect to the one that is more politically-correct, as it is an encyclopedia, after all.
