CNN did show the next segment yesterday, and Mike and Dr Gupta debated last night on Larry King. Dr Gupta admitted that he agreed with Moore on most points. He objected to Mike claiming that universal health care was 'free' because it would be paid for by higher taxes. Mike countered that the higher taxes would be more than offset by removing insurance premiums and co-pays. Gupta also opined that wait times for health care might increase under universal care, as in Canada. Mike said that COULD happen, because the 42 million Americans who are currently uninsured would be more likely to go to the doctor if they had healthcare. However, he added that there are many countries with universal care who have wait times comparable to the US today.

Mr Moore posted a point by point refutation of all of Gupta's claims of 'fudging' on his website:

If Michael Moore wasn't such a fat pig he wouldn't have to worry so much about health care.

Yoou think there's a deficit now? Wait until they institute national healthcare. That's where the bolsheviks will be making people pay to die.

Mr Moore is a good Union man, he has health insurance. He's not worried about himself, he's worried about his fellow Americans, even the REICHwingers.

Repealing the loony tax breaks for the richest 1% and ending the dumping of so many of our tax dollars into no-bid contracts for Halliburton would do much to ease the Bush deficit.

I have great health care that I only pay $400 per month. The bolsheviks in government think they can do better?

That's 4,800$ per year.
Are you kidding me ?

Yeah, Guy, that sucks. I have great coverage for a family of four and it's $94/month. But then again, I work for the government.

How much do you think should the average joe should pay?

No idea. You tell me.
48,000$ for ten years... ? That's a ripoff.

Considering that good health is a basic human right, nothing.

Why does Donald Trump deserve to be healthier than you just because his daddy left him a buttload of money?

For that matter, why does WMC deserve to be healthier than you just because he's from a country with a socialist government?

You see, it makes no sense.

Obviously, the eventual cost would depend on what national health care plan is implemented. Rep. John Conyers has introduced HR 676, The United States National Health Insurance Act (Expanded and Improved Medicare for All) Here's a brief summary of the cost:

HR 676 Would Reduce Overall Health Care Costs

Families Pay Less

A study by nationally recognized economist, Dean Baker, of the Center for Economic Research and Policy concluded that under H.R. 676, a family of three making $40,000 per year would spend approximately $1900 per year for healthcare coverage. Currently, (in 2007) the average annual premium for families covered under an employee health plan is $11,000. (National Coalition on Health Care.)

Business Pays Less

In 2005, without reform, the average employer that offers coverage will contribute $2,600 to health care per employee (for much skimpier benefits), or 217.00 per month. Under HR 676, the average costs to employers for an employee making $30,000 per year will be reduced to $1,425 per year; or about $119.00 per month.

Baker's study reported that HR 676 would reduce health spending in 2005 from $1 trillion, 918 billion dollars to 1 trillion, 861.3 billion dollars, which translates into a saving of $56 billion in overall health care spending while covering all of the uninsured. This is a 3% reduction in over-all health care spending.

Proposed Funding For USNHI Program:

Maintain current federal and state funding for existing health care programs; employer payroll tax of 4.75, an employee payroll tax of 4.75; establish a 5% health tax on the top 5% of income earners; 10% tax on top 1% of wage earners, 1/3rd of 1% stock transaction tax, closing corporate tax loop-holes; repeal the Bush tax cut for the highest income earners

Does $48,000 begin to address the cost of a heart bypass operation or prostrate cancer treaments? I don't think so.

The only way universal health care will work is if we don't expect too much (e.g. - requesting a band-aid for a missing limb or a good sock in the chest for a heart attack) from the health care system.

BOLSHEVIKS ALWAYS WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING!

It doesn't make too much sense since they always want successful people to fork over their entire salary to the state.

"BOLSHEVIKS ALWAYS WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING! "

O shut up. The current system doesn't work. Medicare seems to work pretty well, so let's expand it to cover everyone and tweak it as needed. And quit whining about the cost. That's the problem with you REICHwingers, you think it's all about YOU. It's not, it's about all of us together, COLLECTIVELY. That's right, I said COLLECTIVELY. Did your head explode?
